Ok, I don't know what they are called  ... I always call them her "butt feathers" ... the long white fur underneath Abby's tail on her tushie.
Does anyone have tips on how I could trim it myself? I've got trimmers and scissors, but I'd rather not use the scissors.

I agree, why trim? This is part of the golden's natural coat. I believe in keeping the coat as natural as possible. A golden's coat is not suppose to be clean cut. If your golden's coat is very thick and you just want to thin it a bit, use thinning shears not scissors! Cut a bit, brush, evaluate. Personally, I groom Cassidy myself and ONLY cut feet and ears. I brush her feathering almost every day just to keep it from getting knots.

For some reason, her tushie feathers are just getting longer and longer, not thicker. The very tips brush the floor when she walks! Abby is very sleek, her coat isn't thick at all. And let's not even talk about what gets stuck in them when she poops. (And no, before everyone gets in an uproar, her poops are just fine, thanks, not runny or soft ;) ) Oi!
But I do agree with you, they are so darn pretty on her .... especially when she's running across the field! But thinning shears, I never thought of those. Thank you!!! They would help tremendously I bet.

Oh wow, i bet she is gorgeous, do you have any pics of her tushie trim? If it drags the ground, then i am sure you could trim it a little. I would love to see a pic of it!
Thanks

I don't have any pics here at work, but I might have some at home that I could post later tonight .... if not, I'll take some of her tushie for you to see! I'm sure Abby will love me chasing afer her tushie with my camera jump2
She does have a gorgeous coat though ... she even has the "angel wings" on both sides just behind her shoulders, those beautiful white spots in her already pale coat. The longest spots on her coat are her tail and tushie feathers, they look so pretty when she runs!

Abby's full name, Abby Aniela, when translated, means "angel sent from heaven" ............. I purposely chose that name, as Abby came to my family at a time when we were grieving the death of two family members, and Abby was our very own angel ... she has helped us heal in ways we never thought possible.
When I first heard someone tell me that Abby had "angel wings" on her shoulders, I nearly broke down in tears ... it was like everything I had felt and thought about my Aniela was true ..... really true ..... not just the feelings I had in my gut and my heart, you know?
It's so amazing how these beautiful creatures can touch our lives, heal them, and bring us such love. I can't imagine my life without my angel.
And now that I'm crying .... :laugh2 .... I'm going to log out and go cuddle with my angel girl. I'll get y'all pictures soon, I promise!!!

I did notice that my dogs have ANGEL WINGS, and when they come in from playing outside and they give that Great Big Doggie Body Shake, that now I call it, ANGEL DUST, and it floats through the air and lands on everything!!!!!! rofl3

I trim Honey's "butt feathers" every month or so. I use a thinning shears, and just trim them a little. I still leave quite a bit of hair there. If I don't trim the inside and up near the top, sometimes she will get poop and pee on her fur. The rest I just thin out a little. I also use a thinning shears on her ears, and once in a while on the tail, and a regular scissors on her feet. Everything else I leave. I learned how to trim her from my trainer who is alos a professional dog groomer.
