I have been reading a few of the death stories. It is shocking that goldens seem to live their entire lives without being sick, but all of the sudden things go for the worst. Copper has been relitively healthy with the exception of allergies until lately. She is developing glaucoma and has some arthritis. These are age problems, but I am afraid they will turn worse. Glaucoma, if turned un-careable, can be cured with surgery, but it isn't preformed at my vet. (my vet knows the vet that does it though). It is about 1000 dollars or more. If Copper's got that bad we would do it. There is a risk with it however, her being old, and that there is a risk anyway. Her is the miricle of it. A 7 or 8 yr old Sottish Terrier had severe Glaaucoma and went entirely blind. They wen t to the vet and she reccomended the surgery. The owners thought about it. In the meantime, their scotty got worse. The finally agreed after research of the operation and the vet's reputation to go ahead with the surgery. The surgery was a success and within days the scotty was able to see as clearly as a pup. I am just worried, beacause Copper is getting up there (8 yrs),that she will end up going to the rainbow bridge. I hope this story helps those who's gRs have glaucoma too, and those who have gone blind from it.
