for my puppy. I don't mean an AKC name just a regular name. Here are a few of my picks, but they don't seem to be really unique:
Hunter
Dakota
Gunner
Riley
Princeton
Tucker
Colby
Kasey
Kobi
Hayden
Caden
My bf likes the first three names; but I have no clue..
Does anyone have any suggestions or like any of the names on the list?
Thanks ;)

Best thing to do is just hang out with him for awhile and watch his character and personality, I guarentee that a name will roll off your lips. :029 You may like a name NOW, but may not fit your pup at all, once you spend some time with him. GOOD LUCK :dogbark

ditto that, I think when you hold the pup and get to spend some time, you will know what name best fits the pup. I didn't have a name picked out til I held Bear in my arms. God, he was sooo cuddly as a bear! And it fits.

keep your list, and add to it, and cross some stuff off.. you'll come to it, once you have him.. Jaeger wasn't jaeger for almost a week... my daughter finally hollered at me, tojust give him a name.... I couldn't decide... so in the end, I used one that you picked, Hunter, but gave it to him, in german.. they do say the long vowels sounds, train easier, but they're goldens... they do fine... irregardless of vowel sounds.
sutter, is a good name too... for sutters mill, a gold mine, in the gold rush days of CA??
just my thoughts.. all the best..

These are great names and one of them may be the NEW name, but I can't stress enough for you to spend time with your pup before you decide, I misnamed a pup once out of being anxious and I kick myself in the butt for that, because the dog and the personality and character was not at all becoming to the name!!! Then I realized how stupid the name was, The name was, SIMON and I tell you DID NOT FIT.

You can't be a bad mom just because you don't have a name yet, silly hehe.

"for my puppy. I don't mean an AKC name just a regular name. Here are a few of my picks, but they don't seem to be really unique:"
--Well, they don't have to be uniqure, unless that's what you want. Perhaps a review of the dog names database will give you some ideas?

I like Hunter, that's a good Golden name, I think. One of my favorites was Oakley, but hubby didn't like it too much.
Rocky's Mom

My first GR's name was Joshua, I wanted a Biblical name. Our second one got named by the "men" in my family. My twin boys were 7 years old at the time and very into the Rocky movies and also Super Mario. His name is Rocky...but he came close to being Yoshi!! I tease them now that they are 18 and ask them how they would feel introducing their dog to people as Yoshi!! Goodtimin is right.....the name will come to you after you spend time with him...it's like naming your kids....you can't rush it. We are in the process of waiting on a female GR puppy and think we will name her Reagan, because we really loved Pres. Reagan.

We are in the process of waiting on a female GR puppy and think we will name her Reagan, because we really loved Pres. Reagan.
I told my hubby if we ever get a female dog, I want to name her Reagan too :) I adored Pres. Reagan and Nancy. They were just the sweetest couple. I will never forget this story:
President Reagan went for his daily walk with his secret service guys. He had Alzheimer's pretty badly, and didn't even recognize most of his close friends and family anymore. As they walked, he stopped by a house surrounded by a white picket fence that had beautiful roses growing inside the fence. Pres. Reagan stopped and tried to open the gate. One of the Secret Service guys said "Mr President, this is not your house" and Reagan turned and said "I just want to pick a flower for my love". I still tear up thinking about it. They were such a sweet couple :)
I live in Simi Valley, where he is buried and was there when his body arrived (stood for hours on the side of the road, waiting but it was worth it :) )

I agree Coopersmom.....Pres. Reagan and Nancy were a VERY sweet couple...I used to tear up watching how she looked at him while he gave a speech....when we were all discussing getting a puppy and what kind of names we liked, we were bouncing around a few and I said "how bout Reagan after the Pres." and all four of us looked at each other and said definitly....I thought it was wierd that we had a name picked out and no puppy, but I see a lot of you all did the same thing, so I feel better!!! I have to tell you too, I laughed out loud when I read your posts about getting Cooper. I went through the exact same thing with Joshua....I didn't sleep the night before and I was so anxious I was gonna bust! We also had sleep problems with him like you did and I think he was born Nov. 11??? That was Joshua's BDay too! We got him New Years Eve day. Rocky was pretty good about sleeping in the crate....he would cry, we'd tell him, no , sleep time and he would be okay....Joshua didn't give up easily....he was incredibly trainable and smart....TOO smart I think sometimes...I love looking at all the puppy pictures...I am living vicariously through all of you until we can get a puppy!!

When we named our goldens we choose a theme. Goldens are outdoorsy kind of dogs so I wanted names that reflected that. My first golden was named Hunter and now I have Fisher. The next ones will be Trapper and Ranger. We think its cute!! :604 jump2

Rocky's Mom...yes, Cooper was born Nov. 11th. We brought him home January 1st. It's funny, because my son's name is Joshua, and his birthday is Nov. 9th :)

I say just take your time and let the puppy tell you his name. I had Cassidy for almost 2 months before she picked her name. I would thow out random names at her but she never responded to any of them. Then one morning we were watching the Yound and the Restless. There is a character named Cassie (Cassidy) on the show. Out of nowhere, my little pup went running up to the TV and started pawing at the screen. Up until this time she had never done this (now she does it all the time!) When she did this, Cassie was the character on the screen. I said "Oh, you like Cassie?" When I said the name Cassie she turned around with her ears up. I repeated "Cassie" and she came running to me. Thus, my puppy picked her own name. banana
Just give it some time. Trust me . . . it will come to you when you least expect. BTW: Cassidy still answers to the name "Pup". Guess she never forgot her first call name. :laugh2

I absolutely love the name Reine (can be spelled anyway). I don't know why I love it, but if I get a male dog that I can name myself (I've only had two females, and they came with their names), then that's the name I'm choosing. Like everyone suggested, just pick out a couple of different names, and test them. You'll know when you find the right name.

I love the time I was kidding around with my hubby on girl dog names, we were getting nowhere, So I said, OKAY, then we will just call her, PENELOPE, (kidding of course) and my hubby said, fine, go ahead. Just don't expect ME to call for her when she's out in the feild. Ther was no way my hubby would even think off yelling, "hey , PENELOPE, come in now!!!! rofl3

Growing up I had female English Pug named Jezzebel. She was 6 months when we got her and already named so we stuck with it. She had a litter of 8 pups - our last name started with a T so we tried to name all the pups with J's or T's. Jingles, Jenny, Jocco, Jeppeto, Tina, Teddy, Toddy & Tilly. I also know a family that went with a similar theme. The husband & wife both had the same initials, had named their kids so they also had the same initials & did the same with their cat & golden!

We accidentally fell upon the alphabet theme:
A- Ashton- Black Lab
B - Bradey- son
C - Cindy - me
D - Dave - hubby
J - Josie - cat
K- Kaycee- daughter
L- Logan- Golden and Lexi (our other GR who passed)
M- Mason - cat
So when Lexi passed in September at 14 years old, we knew we wanted another GR, but that the name would have to start with an "L" to keep things in order. I wanted Luke, but he didn't look like a Luke, so Logan it was!!!

We go for "people" names, Bonnie (passed away September) and Ralphie. If we had gotten a male while Bonnie was alive, we would have named him Clyde.
But I also love the "location" names so many of you have: Dakota, Montana, Tulsa. They kind of roll off the tongue. We considered "Jersey" for when we got Ralphie, but no one but me liked it. Then again, I prefer a name that reflects whether dog is male or female.

My brother has a dog named Tucker. When his son was learning to talk he kept mixing up the first letters of some words. He'd go out in the yard to call the dog in & yell "Here F***er Boy" for the whole neighborhood to hear. Of course we had to get him doing this on video tape for future blackmail purposes when he is a teenager! :laugh2 :roll2 :happy2

Names for a dog is a big deal and it can take alot of time. We have a Parker, Oakley and now Blaze on our road...all Goldens. I loved Keagan and or Blake, my husband didn't like them so I picked Blaze instead and I do like it. I call him many names but Blazen is one I use alot. I like Blaze it is not all that common. Enjoy Tucker, it is a very nice name for a Golden. :)
