Does your Golden talk to you. Beau talks to me some but his favorite person to talk to is Lynn (Daughters boyfriend). They carry on so that you would not believe, I really believe Beau understands what Lynn says and vice versa. Fun to watch, although it does get a little loud sometimes, so watch at your own risk.

This is hilarious to read-Merlin talks too-its this 'grumble' that he does-that turns into a whine....usually if I sleep in-and dont get up when my husband does-Merlin will come into the bedroom-put his head on the side of the bed-looking at me-and 'talk'-LOL...if he could speak he'd be saying-'Why are you still in here-get up-I want you to see everything I'm doing because Im so amazing-and it's so boring when you're in here-it's not right-come and play with us'....

Makes me laugh(and-get out of bed!)

Sabre talks all the time, not a huge barker but his moans and carries on ALL the time. It is too funny, I talk to him all the time so I think that is where he gets it from. My husband laughs at me saying "do you think he knows what you mean?". I talk constantly, like "lets do laundry; come help me do laundry; do you believe she did that (while watching TV)". I'm a chatterbox so that is probably why he is.

Guess it's his way of answering back and complaining about it! :woofpup

My golden doesn't talk, but in the middle of the night when she is dreaming, she will howl like a coyote and scare the dickens out of the 3 cats and me.

Beau just happened to "talk" this morning at 1.30 AM...

He came over to my side of the bed and put his cold nose in my armpit and did this little roo-roo thing (very quitely mind you) and I knew he had to go potty. This is unusual for him but I got up and let him out and he had to pee and poo. Of course its raining cats and dogs and he is soaking wet, so I have to go and get a towel and dry him off. Meanwhile hubby is snoring to beat the band and never knows we have gotten up and I finally got back to sleep about 5 minutes before the clock goes off and its time to get up and start the same routine all over again. Gosh, I hope it stops raining soon!

I thought my dog was the only wierd one that did that. It's great to hear that yours does too! It is a pretty wierd sound that can wake the neighborhood! :dogbark

My daughter ws in the Poconos (sp?) this past week and she did hear a real coyote at night. good thing she didn't have the 5 month old puppy out for his walk. It's scary and neat (the environmentalist in me) to think that coyotes are in pa.

Izzy is quite the talker. She always tells me about her day when I get home from work. She has this little doggie language all of her own.

She doesn't bark much, but will carry conversations on with any who will listen and get in on the conversation. She has a different kind of doggie talk when she wants something, when she is content or annoyed. You never have to guess what's on this girl's mind. She is more than willing to share. :laugh2

Neither of mine talk, but Tucker whines only when he wants something. Like for me to get out of bed at 5:00, not to let him out, but to eat!

Love that puppy pic! I wish you could add sound!

I taught Jake to speak on command using my hand in the talk, talk motion - but when I raised my finger to my lips (like shhhhhh!) and wiggled my pinky, he would talk, very quietly and it sounded just like "I love you!" - well, honestly, it was more like wi-wuv-wu but it worked for me! (I loved having him "talk" to the phone solicitors!) :D :laugh2

He did tend to "talk back" when the answer was no - it was very endearing. It isn't so endearing when my pre-schooler does it though. (Can you tell Jake was a bit spoiled?) jump2

I love this thread. Brings back wonderful memories of my Golden-Collie, Abbey, that I lost to cancer last June 19th. She would talk constantly and I really miss her "voice". I taught her to say "Wy waa woo" (I love you), she knew to speak when I snapped my fingers, and when I would say "whisper" she would do her little grumble talk ever-so-softly. She loved to greet me at the door, then would run and pick up a toy to bring back to me and loudly say "roo-roo-roo!". I would then chase her around the house saying "Gimme that! That's MY toy!" and she would hold her head and tail up so high, prancing in front of me and loving every minute of it. God, I miss her. The house just isn't the same.

The 2 Goldens I have now don't talk, though I am trying my best to get them to because I miss that sweet sound so much. When I see them bringing me a toy I expect to hear the "roo-roo" again, and when it doesn't come, I realize why. My female, Maggie, is very much like Abbey so I am praying that she finds her voice SOON!!

Your Abbey sounds like my Jake! Perhaps it's a "single dog" thing? I hope our two are up there "chatting" together! :dogbark :reddogx

Thanks JsMom, I hope they are together too. I often think of Abbey and the story of Rainbow Bridge and I wonder if she is waiting there for me. Then I cry thinking she must be in such a panic looking for me and I worry that she is alone and afraid, wondering "Where's my Momma?!" She was my soulmate, understood me more than anyone, and was always by my side. If everyone else walked in the house and I wasn't with them, she would go crazy looking for me whining and crying until I got home. I just don't want to think of her going through that now.

Thank you for your kind words.

Ozzy used to kinda moan when he was begging for food- from the moan we got him to open and close his mouth - so he actually says MAMA for a treat!! No lie-- I have even recorded it for poeple who dont believe it! But you have to hear it in person to really experience it! My 17yr old daughter had a boy over to the house and he nearly freaked out when he heard him! Face turned white and he was totally freaked- most of the time it sounds just like a long mamamam, its unbelievable!

home from work. That's when we really get the "roo-roo-roo". Also other times if she's really wanting something. She also moans a lot when she first lays down or changes position. We laugh at her constantly because she's only 3; we can't imagine what she'll be like when she's an old lady.

Shaker doesn't but Berr talks to my 13 year old daughter. She'll be sitting at the computer and he sits beside her and "talks" to her and her alone. He also offers her a nice squeaky toy when she comes home from school.

I loved this post and all the stories. Cheyenne doesn't talk too much but Piper, well I thought there was something wrong with her at first. Hehee She makes noises that I have never heard from a dog before. Sometimes she sounds like a bear, sometimes chewbaca, sometimes she talks back in barks and whines. she is just very very vocal. And she makes those toys squeak too let me tell you. She can't just squeak it a few times, oh noo she has to constantly over and over squeak squeak squeak. It is too funny, except when you try to talk on the phone and the person on the other end is wondering what kind of animals you have because she is carrying on in the background with her Chewbaca noise. Makes me laugh all the time though. The best medicine in the world are my two goldens.

Tinkerbell talks a lot. She roo-roo when she wants to play and sometimes when she is hungry. She also talks back when she is told no. Which since she is 4 months is quite often. She has learned that I am going to win so she only barks back at me 1 or 2 times when I tell her that is enough. But she has started to get the last word in a new way. After mouthing back a time or 2 she walks away grabs a squeak toy comes back squeaks it real loud once then drops it and walks away.

Does your Golden talk to you. .

yup! Jack loves talking to you...not so much barking but just making these noises (like...rawwoooo raooo oooeeew)...so i make those noises back to him and we have this long chat! Then Clyde gets annoyed and Barks to say "OI! The two of you scchhhhh!!!"

I find Clyde loooooves to bark but never used to and really think it's an old age thing! Bonnie (since passed) never used to bark but when she hit the 7-8 mark she ALWAYS had to have the last say! And now that Clyde is 9, he always has the last say too! We did teach him to speak on command aswell! (Probably the wrong move now that he knows what to do with his voice box!)

But Clyde definately lets me know if there is a free hand of mine that could be patting him!!! Sometimes i think a basenji (sp?) (if that is the right one...the one that doesn't bark?) would be good to have! hehe :dogbark

Berr talks to my daughter all the time (he sounds like scooby doo with a cold :D and he's always choosing a nice squeaky toy and offering it to her. If I'm ignoring him, he sometimes offers me a toy, but he never talks to me. Shaker, on the other hand, does a "let's play ball!" musical number that includes "special" barking and dancing from side to side. If I'm reading, she'll nudge my elbow before beginning her dance number to make sure I'm paying attention. :085

He sings too when extremely happy (out of the crate in the morning, greetings, after meals, etc) sounds something like a pirate. "rrrrrrrrrrr-rrrrrrrrrr-rrrrrrrr-rrrrrrr-rrrrrrrrrr-rrrrrrrrrr, etc."
