I always knew Goldens were used for hunting, but when I had Dylan, he never gave any type of animal a second look when he came across them. My landlord has a huge man made pond where humans and dogs could go swimming alike. When some geese decided to raise their young on and near the pond, my landlord and his neighbors couldn't let or bring their dogs out because they would have went right after the geese. Not Dylan! He couldn't have cared less about them. He gave them one look and that was it. He was more interested in sniffing every tree around him. Therefore it came to a complete surprise to me one time when he spotted a rabbit in the backyard of my house. He automatically stopped in his tracks and "pointed" to where the rabbit was standing. I was really impressed, but then again, throughout Dylan's 12 years on this earth, I was pretty used to Dylan impressing me.

Something like that happened with my old Black Labrador Retriever. He hadn't been hunting, or had any type of training for it that we knew of, but suddenly as we were walking, he saw a rabbit and stopped midwalk to go into full point posture. I was wholly amazed when I saw him do that!
By the way, your Golden is very beautiful. He's just like my Rusty, but a bit less furry. ;)

I am working my 8 3/4 month old gal, "KELI" with some triple retrieves and it's funny when she goes into POINTER mode, that front leg comes up and the body is erect, ears are set, tail is 1/2 mast, Are you a POINTER or a GOLDEN??? rofl3 Really I do know what is going on, it's just as great site to see the intensity, the look, and WOW can the body stance just about knock you out!!!!!!!!!! It is quite a site!!! banana

LOL Goodtim'n, Gus does that too. I have a tennis ball thrower (Gus is a ball hound), when you are ready to throw the ball he has the one paw up and is ready to GO as soon as you have the thrower in motion. When we were at the beach last year I could put the tennis ball in the thrower and hold it in front of his face and he wouldn't move a muscle. There were several times when another dog would walk by on a leash and Gus wouldn't move a muscle, it was like he was hypnotized. He didn't even look at the other dog. I guess that is the focus you are talking about, LOL.
