On the puppy forums , there are wonderful precious pictures of sweet babies. Having just lost a beloved 10 Y.O. , I am partial to the gentle white-faced Golden oldies. If you have a wise old golden, please share a picture. They are every bit as fun to look at as the scramblin' new pups

Here is my baby Max when he was 9 yrs old. He was laying all over my son's schoolwork so I couldn't resist putting the glasses on him and taking the pic. He passed away this past New Year's Eve at the age of 10. We will never forget him!

Thanks for the photos. It's nice to see what are young ones will eventually look like. I'm wondering if the lighter colored goldens show their "gray" with age too?

Good question! Sammy was almost orange so I don't know . Anyone out there with a light Golden Oldy who can accomodate with a pic?

Dylan was 7 years old when I had this picture taken. I had just graduated from college. Since Dylan had put up with me for four years of studying and sit patiently right next to me while I typed my papers, I thought he deserved his own "graduation ceremony."

Thanks Goldenfrost for the photo of an older lighter golden. I was wondering about that. Tara is beautiful. The fur around her nose looks a little lighter. Was it always that light, is it her grey or just the photo. Also do you remember when her nose turned pink? Does it turn back to black in the summer? Harley is just over a year & 1/2, going thru her second winter but no "winter nose" yet - it's still black. I know alot of this depends on genetics (Harley developed those "black spots" on her tongue at about 6 months) but I'm just curious as to what ages to watch for changes at.

Tell Tara I'm sorry I spelled her name wrong. I know she will forgive me. They always do.

Cigar is 9 and Copper is 8. I enhanced Copper's face a bit so you could see her real color. bonex1 O bonex1 ! These are pretty recent. Copper's gray is mostly on the sides of the face and I don't have many of those, they are to big anyway and my size reducter isn't working.

The fur around her nose looks a little lighter. Was it always that light, is it her grey or just the photo. Also do you remember when her nose turned pink? Does it turn back to black in the summer? Her face was always that colour. I think the flash is brightening it a bit. As for her nose, it turned at about 2 and it never went back to black...I think it is always cause it is stuck to the ground sniffing...must have wore the colour off.rofl3

Here is Riki, two days before we had to put her down because of bone cancer. I agree -- I think it's the flash that exaggerates the whiteness in the face, because in real life, she barely aged between 6 and 16!

See, here she is at 10 or 12

What great pictures! I just want to hug them- God bless ole'Rusty. Riki looks like he was a light gold yet he greyed. So cute. I guess that answers my question as to whether or not the very light Goldens show white faces.
Maybe its just because I havent had a puppy for SO long, but I love the gentle devoted old Golds. If I werent so afraid of the heartbreak again so soon after losing my baby, I'd adopt an old Gold...I am still reeling from the loss of Sammy and couldnt face another loss soon. But Old Golds are the greatest-I loved and cherished him even more when he was old than when he was a rompin' stompin' youngerster. (Maybe its because I am no longer a youngster so it was easier to keep up with him! :dogbark

Here's Zoe-a 15 yr old golden-who I just adore! She's staying with me again this week.
I LOVE this photo-because-she can be a real grumpy old lady-when the other dogs start playing too close to her-she growls at them! This is her-with her-dont mess with me-look-after Jed(in the background) and Merlin-had been playing tug of war with his toy duck.Zoe was NOT impressed with all the noise-and told them so-then gave me this look as if to say-Well-arent you going to do something about it? rofl3

Thanks all-and yep-she is an utter delight to have here....there's just something so special about the golden oldies :)
I must ask her owners for a photo of her when she was younger too-I bet she was a stunner-she still flirts in front of the male dogs-its hilarious-she 'prances' and jumps around them! She's incredibly lively for an old lady-likes playing tug of war with Merlin-I think she's going to live for quite a while yet!Hope so anyway!

Mom and Dad have gone to Raratonga for an island holiday!
Zoe doesn't seem to mind too much-she loves being here-and does her little 'prancing' when she arrives(she's stayed here a few times now-so she's always really relaxed and happy!)
It's great! I'll post some more pics of her soon!

Caught my old guy on a good day last October. He was 16 1/2 at the time. He no longer retrieved the ball but walk after it and then proceed to roll on it and use it as a massage ball! rofl3

Jake left us last month to go to that playground in the sky - he had just turned 17. I hope your Tessa has many more years as well. Give her lots of hugs and kisses! :dogbark
I read somewhere that you have 5 goldens - is that your crew in your siggy pic? Wow! I'm amazed - this little house isn't big enough for that many - although there were times when I thought I had that many - Jake always had to be right in the middle of everything! :laugh2

Well, Ginger started getting white hairs on her face at 4 1/2 years old...
Here is a photo of her from last summer (when she was 8), she's 9 now. I guess I'm in denial because I just can't think of her as a senior!

Did you get another Golden (pup or senior) after Jake ? I imagine that Jake is your `forever' dog, even if you added a pup to your life. Sammy is ,was, always will be, my `forever' dog, altho I now have a 6 mo Golden. I love and spoil him but my baby, my Sammy , owned me heart and soul, forever. :reddogx

No - no new puppy for us yet. Waiting for my youngest child to calm down a bit more - he's pre-school age. I can't imagine running after him AND a puppy at the moment as I'm an "older" mom to start with. Still here hanging out and checking out breeders though.
Your new puppy will never replace your Sammy - just as another will never replace my Jake - but in time I'm sure your heart will grow and this pup will "share" a space in there with Sammy. Give it some more time and enjoy the differences between the two. What is your pup's name?

I'm just reading through this thread for the first time, and gosh I just love it! Reyna went gray at just 4 years old. When we lost her at 7, she still acted like a youngster. Jenna has apparently had a hard life and at age 7, she acts more like a senior.
When I see the seniors on the rescue sites, my heart just melts. At last month's golden adoption day, I got to meet a few and fell madly in love.
In the future, I will always make sure there is space in my home for an oldie but goodie. They are just so wise and wonderful!

My new Golden is named Blue. I do love him ,but I got him too soon after my precious Sammy. Blue is a charmer and he is growing on me daily but I feel like I was unfair to him for the first few months as i was not ready. To all of you lucky Golden Oldie owners- you are so lucky. That is the best time of their life with you- they are so gentle and loving. And as evidenced by these photos , so truly wiselooking and mellow and beautiful. Hugs to them from me! :dogbark
