I just bought a 2004 Chevy Tahoe, Dogs love it, but I need to get a barrier!! We also own a 1988 full size Chevy, K-5 restored, classic blazer, (goes to classic restoration shows for display) and a 2003 Chevy full size Silverado King Cab truck, They are all charcoal in color, with dark glass, it is sometimes hard to see if I even have a dog with me. I have magnetic signs on the truck and the tahoe for my dog groom and training business.

Currently driving a Corvette. However, since Cassidy has come into my life I now relize this is not a very wise choice. Although, I pile the hatchback full of soft blankets and she really loves it.
I do have my eye on the Acura MDX. I think I will be getting one of the 2006 models when the come out.

I drive my friend's corvette once in awhile, Bear doesn't like it much, I think he's claustraphobic, he loves roaming around and can't stand still in one spot after a few min. When he's in the corvette, he sits on the passenger side, facing me with his paws on the armrest/console with his paws touching my arm.

Hubby drives a Volkswagen Toureg. Beau loves to ride in the back and look out the window. I drive a Mercedes S320 and we usually don't take my car when we have Beau, but if we do he rides in the back seat and sticks his nose up over the seat.

My favourite car is my Mazda MX5 but we also have a collection of Volvos...2 480's, a 460, a 760 and a break. We have a Reliant Scimitar (Princess Annes favourite), a Triumph Spitfire and a Matra Murena. They are all used for different jobs. The Golden Girls laid claim to the Volvo break for obvious reasons but Katie loves the Spitfire 'cos she likes to feel the wind in her fur and Sally likes the Matra for its speed.
Needless to say...no dogs allowed in the Mazda as she is brand new. Maybe after a couple of years I will relent.

I'm glad I read this thread. I have the Nissan Frontier Supercharged Pick-up ~ with crewcab and extended flatbed.....it's long. My poor husband can't drive the darn thing. He backed into someone and side swipped a mailbox...arrrrrrggggghh. I've been driving it 4 years without any issues, YET.
When I turn it in (it's a lease) I'll look into the Xterra. I'm looking for something with better accomodations for Shadow and Tucker. Right now they sit in the crewcab with their seatbelts on.

I drive a Toyota Corolla.I love my liitle car!I can fit into little spots. My family fits ok.Its always been dependable.I was thinking about a mini van now that my kids are getting older and wanting me to drive them and their friends around. My family would like me to get an suv but with gas prices so high I wouln't get an suv or a mini van.To be honest I can't stand suv's.My friends and family have suv's and I think their over rated. Some are huge on the outside but you can't fit much on the inside!Alot of people can't even handle them!I think they are dangerous....They don't belong on city streets but thats just my opinion.I was taking Bosco home from the vet yesterday,he wasn't feeling to great,I was driving the speed limit 30mph.This huge suv comes up behind me slams on his breaks and starts yelling at me and following to close!hello,we were in a school zone so I had to slow down even more.He got road rage!Dangerous!!!using his car to intimadate me....

A big Chevy truck for farm business: hauling hay, manure, firewood, maple sap, etc. Usually with one canine navigator. And the rest of the time a Mini Cooper with golden pawprints in lieu of racing stripes. Tetters used to navigate for me, but since his passing Tuppence rides shotgun. And lastly a Honda Foreman ATV for farm chores and running down the road to check the mailbox...with Tuppence riding shotgun and drooling all over the fuel tank! :woofpup

I admit it, I have a very bad car for Goldens, it's a VW bug! Hubby has a jetta which is four door and better for the gang, though not perfect. We did have an SUV for a time, but it was an old hand me down and didn't last long.

The dog rides in all three vehicles.
(Our previous dog, Opus, preferred the truck. She liked to lie with her rump on the back seat and her paws on the center console between us. For her comfort we built a platform that filled the space between the back seat and the console.)
At 8 weeks old, Natasha's first 4 days with us were spent on a road trip driving from Denver to Florida in the truck. . For such a long trip it didn't seem fair to keep her in a crate the entire time. So Natasha spent time in the backseat in a crate, on the console between the passenger and driver, and sometimes on the lap of the passenger. From the first we established that it was not acceptable to annoy or play with the driver. Now, at 7 months the perch between the seats is the favorite place when in the truck.
In the convertible, the first ride was with the top up and windows closed.
The next stage was with the leash attached to her collar and windows open. She could rest her nose on the window frame and look out. But the moment I could tell she was thinking about jumping up and resting her paws on the window frame so she could hang out the window the window would close.
I would also grasp the leash firmly so she would remain seated in the passenger seat anytime I pulled up to a drive in window at places like the bank or a turnpike tollgate.
Once I felt comfortable with her riding in the car with the windows open we went for a ride around the block with the side windows up and the convertible top down. Again, the leash was attached to her collar so I could pull her to a sitting position in the passenger seat if necessary. She seemed to like the wind in her hair. And again, whenever she got the urge to hang over the side of the door the windows would go up. Now, when the windows and top are down I feel comfortable that she will behave although I'm never overconfident because I still keep her leash clipped to her collar.
In the mini cooper: when there are three of us she rides in the back seat. When there are two of us she chooses the passenger seat. And every now and then she enjoys sitting on the passenger's lap.... with a 50+ pound puppy it's very cosy. doggiex1

I drive a Jimmy. All I have to say is want to go bye byes, and she is out the door. She starts to bark at the side door to get into the garage. When I drove cross country I had my mom's celica. I gave Manhattan a cooling bed since it was summer. She layed in the back, with her head on the center console looking at me. Once we stopped she knew it was potty time.I love to see her nose looking out the window trying to get the air of life, with the smile on her face. :laugh2

We used to be driving a sedan, but we decided enough's enough when Sugar couldn't stop 'decorating' the backseats with her golden fur. It got pretty embarrassing when we couldn't give rides to colleagues because of that. :p
Changed to a SUV so that she has the boot area to 'litter' for all she wants. Now she also has a large space to lie down on.
And, DON'T ever open a car door with Sugar around. She assumes that every opened car door equates an invitation to jump up. And it could be anyone's car, not necessary ours

Im stuck in the minivan for now........but having car envy, BIG TIME. Im ready for a change, been looking around and think the Jeep Liberty (Diesel) looks good, first thing ill do is check out the cargo area to see if its golden worthy. I want a smaller suv with not horrible MPG that the dogs have room to be comfy in. If I had no dogs or kids, Id be in the chrysler 300C... but I just cant see that getting all muddied up with river paws...

Honda Element. It has plastic flooring and treated seat fabric that is easy to clean. Also very spacious for long trips. A couple at the dog park transports their 4 Goldens in an Element. We have had 3 retrievers (1 Golden, 2 Labs) in the back quite comfortably.

I have a town & country with stow and go......... love it.... I can put all the seats in the back down and tether the dogs in. No hair on the seats, they can lay down. It's like a puzzle, somedays one seat up, or two or all. I can transport gardening stuff or dogs. and the power doors and hatch are terrific. I don't have the dogs crowding over my shoulder trying to get out the drivers side when I am getting out.

Hello everybody, I'm fairly new to the board and this is my first post but I have been a lurker for a while now. I currently own a Volvo C70 (Coupe), much bigger than most coupes almost the size of a sedan really but just doesn't have rear doors. I'm definitely looking to get a Golden in the future and was just wondering what some of you think about having a dog with your car as a coupe? Also things to know, I'm a single person who doesn't often drive more than myself (every so often I'll have a passenger) in my car. I probably won't be putting the dog in the car for long trips or anything, mostly trips to the park (10min or so) and the vet (20min or so).
I have some fellow friends who own dogs and say a coupe isn't too bad for maybe a female golden (which is what I want).
I'm still currently thinking about selling the coupe and picking up a sedan (which doesn't really make much sense other than the fact that it has 4 doors and not 2 because really my car is just as big as a lot of sedans) or picking up a wagon.
Thanks for your thoughts!
Jay

I have a 2 door sebring convertible....my 2 dogs love it. They just climb into the back seat and are as happy as clams....after all...they are going for a ride with mom! LOL
We also have a town and country entervan. They love the ramp to get in and out...lol...and again...the back seat is theirs. the longest trip we have taken them on has been about an hour one way....to the farm to play... and a hour back..no problems either way.

Thanks for the reply mary, I don't have a convertible but the back seat is pretty big. I'm still thinking that the coupe will be ok but I have had some say buy a wagon and put them in the rear. I don't know if I would want to put a dog in the rear of a wagon, I'd be afraid of a rear-end and the dog getting injured.

I have had a Miata for a while which was ok when it was just me & Bentley (he loved riding w/ the top down). He passed, got 2 golden puppies (Astro & McGee) and bought an Explorer (for the extra space....the dogs go with me constantly). But I can tell you this....goldens are very adaptable to almost every situation. They're happy to be with their humans regardless of what they're riding in, they'll make it work. G'luck. :grwag x2

It works ok with Just Sandy and the kids, but when I have to go to the vet we have to take 2 (soon to be 3) trips as Kaylei and Stormie (if we get her) will not fit with the kids and I sure cannot control 3 dogs by myself at the vet's office. Goldens would willingly ride strapped to the hood with bungee cords if it meant a car ride! I have an Jimmy and a dog ramp. After 17 years of squeezing 3-4 german shepards, 2 small children (& child seats) plus all kid's gear, first in a '67 Mustang and then in a Beretta, I now have room. So do the Golden's enjoy the spacious rear, where I have a comfy quilt for them to lay on? No, they want to sit all crowded up in the back seat with the kids. At least they don't want to drive!
If you're thinking of vacationing with your furry one, a roomy back seat or a small suv is great. I drove the shepards, a 4 year old and a 1 year old from Ohio to Florida in the mustang. Lots of "stretch your legs" stops, but it was ok. For just normal around town stuff, get the vehicle you love. Your dog will love it too:)

I, too, have a Sebring convertible (Hubby has an SUV). Fuji rides well in the Sebring, as he is so tiny (nine pounds at seven years, and can avoid the wind in his eyes). I have yet to transport Ace (14 weeks and 28 pounds) with the top down, as I am concerned with debris getting into his eyes, although he is harnessed in the car.
Can't wait until we can go topless! LOL

I have a Hundai Sante Fe. Lots of room for the doggies but there are two features I really love. One is leather seats. Holds up well and wiping the hair off is a breeze....literaly! Sometimes you open the two back doors and the hair goes out with the wind.
The other feature is the heated front seats. Doggies can have air flow from the back windows but I'm toasty warm!

Pay attention in school, get good grades and you will succeed.
By the way, it is not the good grades that get you to earn a lot of money. It is the attributes. You work hard and become highly intelligent, and you will be cruising around with your 3 Golden Retrievers in your Escalade. :)

2004 Toyota Sienna, a mini-van.
This car gets great gas mileage (about 30 mpg on the highway and 23 or so in the city) as compared to most SUVs.
But carrying Belle around in a mini-van doesn't work too well unless she's crated. She does better in an aged, but still well-running, 2000 Honda Accord.
Belle likes to get under the A/C air stream, which parks her squarely on the floor.

My husband's Durango bit the dust this fall around the same time his uncle passed away, so he took his uncle's car which is a 07 Jeep Grand Cherokee... problem is it has a HEMI and the gas is a killer. So, we have been looking around. He is annoyed because I keep saying we need a 3rd row so we can fit us with the dogs...:D Otherwise a regular SUV would suffice. He even came home witha van the other day!! A Honda Oddessy! Well we only have one child who is 14, and I just can't picture a 50 something guy driving a van for work, Mr. Mom maybe, but not him! He does alot of traveling for work in all sorts of weather and on all sorts of roads, that is why I push for an SUV. So we are back looking at SUVs. Had me drive a Saturn Outlook the other day. Very roomy!

Lady Di.... such decisions! Go for the convertible!!
My son and I were watching tv last night and there is a new ad for a Ford Flex, a new SUV with third row.Showed it to DH and he is not sure he likes the looks. He is now discussing a Honda Pilot all tricked out with the dealer. I dunno.....
I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee... but it isn't big enough for more than one passenger with both our dogs, unless I were to use the trunk part, and I haven't thus far. We are partial to Jeeps, but the Commander's 3rd row is too small! The discussion is that DH is partial to having captain's chairs in second row, but I am concerned about the dogs sitting in captain's chairs comfortably, especially Zoey, so she'd have to go to the third row to lay down (she is a layer, not a sitter, whereas Maisie is a sitter and tries to hang her head out the window every chance she gets). That doesn't leave much for the humans....one passenger in front and maybe one in the back....So sho knows, but we are getting something very soon, the HEMI is sucking the car dry daily!!Wish we could actually get a hybrid, but the wait here is ridiculous!

I drive an '04 Honda Civic. No frills, but I commute a long way to work, and it gets excellent gas mileage! My boyfriend has an '07 Toyota Prius, and it is actually quite spacious with the hatch. He also installed a trailer hitch so we can haul a small trailer or hook up a bike rack to the back. We have a doggie seat cover in back so Lyra doesn't reck the upholstery :)
