Is there a list or guide somewhere that tell what all the initials after a dogs name in a pedigree mean? What's the difference between a CH and AmCh in front of the dog's name? I think the dogs with AmCH or American and Canadian champio are probably in a higher category than the ones with CH since there are fewer of them in the prdigree but I'm not sure. Thanks for any help with this.

It shows WHERE the dog earned it's CH. AM, is american, CA. is canada, and so forth, they are countries, It just shows how much campaining the owner did and that the dog is a Finished Champion there , The countries go on forever. The titles behind the name are working titles. And they go on forever. It's not matter of catagory, it is how much and where the dog was shown, and that the dog earned enough points to become a CHAMPION. Dogs that show no titles before or after are dogs that were NOT shown. It still doesn't mean the dog isn't always worthy, I means that some of these, SHOW DOG PROSPECTS, where not shown due to the owners not wanting to show. There are a lot of great dogs/pedigrees out there, but the owners never campained their dogs. This is a deep subject and involves the big question? Should I or Shouldn't I breed, if my dog is not a Champion.

Thanks,
There are two listed after grandsire, OS and SDHF. I'm not sure what these mean. Could it be Outstanding Stud or Sire? I can't even imagine what the SDHF stands for.

The CH's are nice but I realize not everyone shows their dogs so some in the pedigree can be great dogs without a title. I like to see their health clearances more than titles.

The OS is Outstanding Sire I believe and the SDHF is Stud Dog Hall of Fame. :)

You are correct. OS - Is outstanding sire, OD is outstanding dam. SDHF is Show Dog Hall of Fame.

I've searched the AKC prefixes and suffixes and all the other websites listed in previous threads and still can't seem to decipher Nana's pedigree! Is it because she is from Hungary or am I just a little clueless? for example her sire has: HJCH (champion from someplace...Hungarian Jr Champion?), 3xHPJ, HFGY, 2xRPJ, 2xBOB, CAC, CACIB, MKSZ CAC then it says KV after his name. Also at the bottom of the box it says MET. Gold r. 3330/98 (I get that he's a GR and maybe born in 98? but what's MET?). That's just the sire! Her dam has even more confusing things! I can't find anything that seems to refer to health clearances (no OFA or CERF). I'd love to know more about her family...any ideas?

I imagine those are Hungarian titles. The MET may not mean anything--AKC has prefixes for each group in the registration numbers that I don't think have significance--ex. my dog's registration numbers are SN40333708 and SN92078501. The prefixes also change year to year (SM, SL, SE, etc. for the Sporting Group).

Try finding the Hungarian kennel club's website and searching for a list of titles are their meanings.

Thanks Canadian Golden,
I already tried the Hungarian website, there is very little on there. I actually emailed them weeks ago in an effort to track down Nana's breeder and get more information but they have not responded. (Maybe because my email is in English!)
I'll keep trying to make sense of the European titles :)

My middle golden (Ted) is from Budapest, Hungary and has EKC lines (European Kennel Club). He was born in Hungary and then traveled to the United States :)
