Hi,
I wanted to know if anyone heard of this procedure (www.furminator.com) Over the weekend I took Sammy to a groomer, that gave him a bath and used the Furminator, I did notice today when Sammy laid on me there is no hair on my shirt. It is suppose to last 4 - 6 weeks. Has anyone else tried it?

I haven't tried it but I went to the website and it seems like a good idea. Is Sammy's coat thinner now?
Would you keep us posted as to whether it makes a difference with the shedding.
Thanks

I use one of these in my groom shop and they are also called a POWER WASHER!!! I like them, but, you must still comb the coat out by hand, that is what REALLY gets the dead coat out. Don't be fooled into paying more for this procedure, it is very common. I do not charge any more for my POWER WASHER than the common hand bath. It is not totally recommend for all types of coats. I use it on my dogs for the message feeling, they really like it. It's rejuvenating. But the only thing that really helps in shedding is, OLD SCHOOL-HAND COMBING!!!!! that's the best that money can buy :dogbark There is no stopping the new coat coming in and the old coat going out, which is called shedding, so I beg to differ that it will last for a couple of weeks or more~~~~

I wouldn't say his coat is thinner, but you can tell a difference in the way it feels. I'll keep you updated with how things are. I know it's only been two days but so far I think it's great. With brushing him yesterday and today there is very little hair on the brush.

I know nothing is going to eliminate the shedding. I do brush him often and still plan on brushing him often. But even with all the brushing I did he was still shedding way too much. I was just looking for something that would help. If this product does help then that would be great.

We get Doc the furminator treatment every few months or so. It's pretty good, I mean, it says reduces UP to 80%, so they'll still shed, but you should notice a difference for the first month or so.... Then again, Doc's a field golden so his coat's not that long anyway...

The film looks amazing - but honestly - it looks like a flea comb with a handle. I would get similar results with a plain old plastic comb with Jake. I found it worked best after his bath when his coat was still damp - but I wouldn't recommend it for a show dog. I think it may be too harsh and breakage will occur.
The animals don't seem to mind it though - kittyx1 or :reddogx banana

That's what I thought when I saw it-- it looks like a flea comb. I use a flea comb when Ginger's shedding and it does a great job at getting the loose hair out. If a dog is shedding and you use a flea comb or some other shedding tool, you can usually get out most of the loose coat, which will then reduce the shedding (because there's not much loose coat left to shed out...)

I have a furminator. I used it on two occasions and packed it back in the box.

I have been reading this website for months and only now got up the nerve to ask a question. We have a wonderful, sweet 6mo old Golden named Teddy. We have never experienced this sort of shedding before. Of course, I did my research beforehand and realized it was coming...but if this Furminator works that would be great!!! What is the final consensus from the group? Will it improve my shedding situation? Should we try it?

I purchased a furminator about a year ago and I use it EVERY time I groom. It takes off dead undercoat and leaves the top coat untouched. I use it on all the double coated animals in my house. I love it! Of course it won't prevent shedding but it does get the current dead hair out of the coat. It is not just a flee comb. It has little tiny razor teeth that get the dead undercoat and take it off. I couldn't imagine life without it with my husky. It takes hours off my grooming time when he blows his coat. It works pretty well on goldens, but they don't have nearly as much of an undercoat as say a german shepherd or a husky.

My furminator arrived today banana It worked just like the videos on the web site. :604 I am very pleased cheerleade but time will tell.. I ran the sweeper after and it was full even quicker then it usually is. I will have to wait a day or two and see if the shedding is less. Either way it is going to be part of our weekly brushing from this point on.

This product works well on our Golden, Lady. But she has short hair. It does pull a lot of dead hair out. I will definately continue to use. I don't know if this would have worked on our first Golden. She had so much hair. Just depends on the dog I guess.

I have one of those rake combs from the pet store. So how does this work compared to one of those? Are the teeth on the furminator longer?

my groomer told me the furminator was an entire system of pre wash, setting solution like stuff... not just the comb thing, that "there was much more to it". Do ya think she was joshin' me so id keep coming back to her? or have you all purchased the "whole system" like she told me? hhhmmm

Our groomer offers the Furminator treatment and I have to say I was impressed the first time we tried it a few weeks ago. Prior to the treatment, Maggie was shedding fur puppies all over the house as she was blowing out her winter coat. That even after frequent brushing.
I'm generally a skeptic with things but the results of the treatment were great. She didn't shed at all for about a week and its now been about 2 weeks since she got Furminated and still very little fur coming off. Not only that but her coat looked really nice after the treatment and grooming.
The furminator actually is a whole process. It's not just the tool but the shampoo and conditioner as well. I bring Maggie to the groomers every 2 - 3 months and will probably get it done in future. Worth not having to sweep as much. :D

We tried the furminator treatment on both goldens last month. I was not impressed at all. They were still shedding on the way home. I found it to be no better than the actual grooming. Though it probably depends on the groomer.
We do have the furminator tool at home which is wonderful. It gets so much dead hair out from the undercoat.

I use a rake on the dogs to remove their loose hair. It's four inches long with little ridges--I used to use it on my German Shepards (a breed that has serious fur) and would get so much dead hair out that it looked like I had sheared a sheep. The Goldens love it--it's not sharp, doesn't pull, and does a great job. :reddogx

Amazing and I was told that this would be absolutely great for Goldens.
BTW....I stopped at the breeders today and the puppies were born today...well some as of 2:00 this aft. 4 girls and 1 male but I am 3rd male reserved!!!
I hope she has some more boys.....Wish me luck.... :D

we recently bought one, and have been very pleased with it. Now if it would stop raining long enough for her dry out to really give her a treatment, I'm sure I will love it banana
You can find them a lot cheaper than $68.00. We ordered Hailey's from Amazon.com and it was about 1/2 that price.

Hi Cham
I'm from Canada so with the difference in the money and the shipping it would probably come out to the same. I had come across this at the pet store and was amazed by it. It was sort of an impulse buy.....but a good one... ;)

Oops, I didn't notice you were from Canada, that would make a difference, but regardless, it is a good product that I would highly recommend. :029

Hi,
I didn't realize how much Golden Retrievers shed. While at the Vets office for one of Hannahs puppy check ups the vet said with a Golden Retriever you will need the Furminator.
It is expensive but worth every penny! I LOVE it!!

I had to get my first one on eBay cause none of our local pet stores stocked it a couple of years ago when I first found out about them. I just recently got a second, smaller sized one to use on the kitty, and to start getting Newton used to it. I think the smaller one will be good for ears and tight places.
My kids hate it though ... why? Because every time I get it out I have to talk like Arnold. Irresistible.
Oh yes, and because I use the word as a verb ... to furminate. I am da Furminator, I have come to furminate da dog.

I bought one and only used it once so far but boy it really seems to get some fur off. Use it outside if possible. The birds will like the fur for their nests too.

So do you just use this, or do you have to use another style brush for the top coat? If so, what is best for the top coat?

I start using the Furminator when I can run my hand down her back and come away with a handful of fur, and she starts blowing her coat. The rest of the year I use a double sided brush and a Matbreaker to get rid of any mats that might form. :woofpup

I bought the Furminator at my Vet's office. It is amazing! Our Golden, Hannah, just turned 2 and she sheds alot. I can tell a huge difference when I use the Furminator. I was also at PetsMart the other day and bought the Furminator Shampoo- it smells good! :) If you own a Golden you need the Furminator!
