For an adult Golden IN CASE I find one outside of rescue? I am looking at both breeders and rescues in my area. BTW, anyone know of any REPUTABLE breeders in the Midwest area? (Ohio/Pennsylvania preferably?)

I think the majority of the people paid anywhere between 600-1,500 and up depending on the area you live in and the bloodlines.
Just curious, do you know what your are looking for in a "reputable breeder?" and how to avoid BYBs'?

Thanks - and yes, I sure do. I am actually not new to dogs at all, just newer to this particular breed. I have grown up with dogs all of my life. :)

There is a huge thread on this topic, either in the puppy or potential owner forum - wide range of responses, but really informative. Try looking for it - might be worth reading.

Sorry - I somehow missed where you said "adult." Not sure if there's a thread on that - I was thinking of a puppy thread.

Adults can often be cheaper than puppies. If you go with a good breeder, they often reserve puppies from their litters as potential good stock. Then, as the puppy matures, they may discover coloring, movement, or development isn't as expected, and the dog doesn't perform well in the show ring -- often, these dogs will be neutered, and sold, and you can often find a bargain. Riki was one such dog -- the breeder's show puppies were going for $650, but I got adult Riki for $200. Wheeeeee!!! banana

My rescue charges $250 for a dog under 6 and $200 for a dog 6 and over. The dogs are neutered or spayed before they go out and have their first set of shots. If they are young pups, we charge a deposit and refund it when they are neutered or spayed. If they do the "fixin" at one of our vets they don't pay a thing for it, it the adopter gets it done at their own vet we will give them the price we would have paid (we get a good discount from our vets for neutering and spaying).
