When you bathe your Golden, do you set them in the bathtub and sit outside of it and reach in or do you do like I do and throw a bathing suit on and let them get in the shower with you?

I own a grooming shop and my tub is elevated!!! No bending, no reaching, sometimes a bathing suit is not a bad idea :029

I fill the water with warm water, then I put Bear in, and I wear a bathing suit, and give him a bath.

It depends, if I want to give Allie a bath it's in the tub, but if Allie wants a bath she just jumps right on in to the shower with me.

When you bathe your Golden, do you set them in the bathtub and sit outside of it and reach in or do you do like I do and throw a bathing suit on and let them get in the shower with you?Considering she is a water dog, she HATEs baths
She is also afraid of the shower.
If she goes swimming you can't get her out of the water, In a bath it's like pulling teeth to get her in it. LOL

I chose other because I use a detachable showerhead. She doesn't like baths either but she's become fairly cooperative over the years. It's still hard work though so I just throw on an old t-shirt, get right in there with her and we both come out dripping wet banana

My son actually puts his swimming shorts on a gets in the shower with him. It's a shower only, no tub. When he is finished with him I take him and make sure he is dry enough before he gets out, if not he goes crazy.

Just like Jo Ellen and Springr, I put my dog into MY bathrooms tub(Heaven Forbid my parents' gets dirty lol), Pull off the detachable shower head and soak her with that.
I usually wear some old jeans and a ratty T-shirt. It can get messy.
Although I've been known to put on shorts and get in the tub with her, at least that way she can't excape.

I live in So Florida so the hose on the dock and dips in the pool seem to work just fine...and yes, I have my swim suit on too...

I do both... Usually I put shorts on and get in the tub with her but don't get myself soaked, but sometimes I'll put a bathing suit on.

I had already voted on this poll and selected bathtub cuz that's how I used to wash Max, my 10 yr old that passed away this past December. Now we have 4 1/2 mo old Romeo, and he loves to sneak in the shower with me.
It always starts when I feel him licking my toes, then next thing I know he's in. Comes in handy, really, I keep a little bottle of baby shampoo and a large cup to rinse in the shower. If he has a dirty spot I just wash it off right then. Only use a tiny bit of shampoo cuz I don't want to irritate his skin. When I start to rinse him with the cup that's when he decides the fun is over and chooses to leave LOL

A question related to bathing...should we dry them completely after bathing or swimming? A groomer told me that I should buy a dog hair dryer because by leaving them air dry (damp) is what causes skin problems. I usually just towel dry her really well. How many of you blow dry your dogs?
Advice...Thanks.

I shower every day and Pino is in the bathroom with me. He just looks at me like I'm crazy :D
I'm trying to get him used to the shower head (a detachable one) and always make a fun game out of it. Once I get him in the shower with me, he just sits there looking very very sorry for himselve
Unfortunately we don't have a bathtub or a garden (so no hosing him down when he's dirty), so I have to shower him.
I normally dry him of as good as I can with a towel, I don't blowdry him. Never heard of dogs getting skin problems from being a bit wet. I can't imagine it either. And just the thought of drying him completely every time he gets wet makes my head spin, over here in Holland it rains a lot :(

I voted for tub. At least for my Blake that passed away a few years ago. Now, with a new pup most likely will start the tub training all over again. Blake, use to be tough to get in the tub when he was young, he knew what was coming and everytime I went to pick him he would turn to jello. So I finally decided to put his leash on him, I proceeded to get in and stand in the bathtub and called Blake to me, once in I got out, took the leash and scrubbed him up. After that, really had no problems. Myself or my dad, would just go start the tub water and then you could walk over to wherever Blake was at the moment (he would never be right on your heels when starting bath water as he knew it was going to be his time) and tell him, "Go get in the bath." And within a couple of minutes he would reluctantly walk into and sit in the tub. Afterwards, I just always towel dried him real good and left it at that.

I have given baths in several places--the shower stall, outside in hot weather with just the hose, & in the tub (one dog at a time of course). I have the detachable shower head & I get right in with the dog. Put cotton balls in the ears & we are good to go. I dry the dog off with three towels in the tub & use a hair dryer to finish it off. Then I take my shower & rinse out the tub. :dogbark :reddogx

I do it in the tub but I have a removable shower head and I use that the whole time.He just sits or lays down. When we are all done he waits to have his head dried and then waits for a command to jump out.His favorite part is being towel dried!

We generally don't wash them more than once a year unless they discover something truly disgusting in the forest. And then we do it outside. I rigged a hot water line to the outside faucet so they're more comfy, but generally they pre-soak in the pond, then get lathered up and rinsed clean in the faucet. We found that frequent baths caused them to lose too much oil. Instead, we groom religiously.
Interestingly, Molson, my 13 y/o deaf Alpha, expects to be blown dry by my air compressor after each bath. So I cover his ears and face, and blow him with compressed air from the neck back to the rump. He won't take no for an answer. It's really funny in the dead of winter, since blow drying results in a spike-doo that freezes with fur sticking out all over the place! It looks like we applied mousse!

We do not have a tub, so our boys go in the shower. I put on a swimsuit and they have their own detachable shower head.
I used to bathe them outside but the ground got so wet and dirty it made a huge mess. If we go to the beach (and I don't want to bring them inside) I will hose them off in the driveway out front.
I usually blow dry them a little bit. They love this. But on nice summer days we air dry by going for a nice long walk.

When the weather is good, I wash him in the garden and use buckets with warm water for the shampoo. When he has been rolling in a dead animal of poo, he is allways washed in the garden, even in the winter.
I have a friend with a special shower for her dogs and when the weather isn't good, I was him there, or in my own shower.
In both cases I'm allmost as wet as he is.
Last week I have helped a friend to was her 2 golden males. The oldest is 11 years, the youngest 10 months. Whe washed them in the garden wearing boots and clothes for the rain. When they were finally washed both, we were that tired, that my friend lay down on her bed for 1 hour. When she came downstairs she couldn't find one of her shoes. Finally she found a half shoe. The rest was probably in her young golden. And she thought he was tired too.

At the dog park, if she gets her mudd on, she gets the hose. Then they dry her off. When home here, I give her the tub bath. I had to give her one the other day, and I felt so guilty. She kept putting her head into my arm. At one point she tried pushing me to the side. Manni doesn't cry, but has that sad look. I fill the tub with warm water, help her in, then take my removable shower head to do the rest. Manhattan's fav. part is getting out to run all over the house and do her shimmy dance.

I vote 'other'. We are able to bath Teddy outside, and it is warm enough here to do it all year round. We bath him in a kiddies shell shaped pool which we fill with the hose. Of course Teddy eats the hose...we then wet him with buckets of water and wash him then rinse with buckets and hose. He has a big shake,a towel dry, and a sunbake! We do not bath him in the shower/bathtub for three reasons 1. we have a beautiful claw foot bath which I don't want scratched, 2. the bath is very high, I would never get him in, a nd 3. there is not enough room in either the tub or the bathroom for this type of experience. If Teddy has been swimming at the beach we hose the salt water off him to avoid skin irritations.
p-s: we try to avoid bathing Teddy too often, he doesn't really smell unless it has rained. So maybe half a dozen times a year?

in the tub when cold outside, but out on the porch w/sprayer during the warm/hot seasons.

When I bath Sara it is in the tub. I have a jacuzzi tub and put on an OLD t-shirt and shorts and in we go together. :) I'm only 5'4 and the tub is low so it is easier for me to get in with her. She sits in the bottom and I get to work. Hubby thinks it's funny since he is over 6' and can bathe her from the outside.
I would like to find a huge metal tub so in the summer I can bathe her outside.
Mostly she goes to a groomer once a month for about $20 for the bath and nails (and they trim her paws too :029 ) and a little more if she is getting a haircut.

20.00 for a bath and a trim......that sounds like a bargain to me. :)

I voted bathtub but I also have a kiddie pool that I put in the driveway when the weather allows and use water from the hose. We have both hot & cold water in the garage. :grwag

I voted other, but it really depends. During the summer, they get washed outside with the hose on the thickest part of the grass. Shaker doesn't like her bath but will put up with it. Berr likes his so much, he's always trying to muscle in on Shaker's. If they're nasty and it's cold or raining, they get put in the tub and I use a detachable shower head.
I used to have an hose attachment that fit on the faucet and had a rubber "brush"--actually looked more like a rake--that was just awesome. It broke, and I haven't seen anything like it since. It had a lever handle that you actually had to depress for the water to come out of the brush. I loved the thing--it made washing dogs so easy. If anyone has one, where did you find it?

I use a hand held shower,we have a tiled bath with a drain in the floor so there is plenty of room. Using some web advice,I put a rubber topped stool down and say "paws up". With my dog's front paws on the stool, she stayed there without moving for the entire procedure. I used a nylon puff to suds her up good then did a good rinse. Need to work on the blow dry technique though, I used a brush to assist with getting the undercoat dry and now she has a severe case of "bedhead"

Some times I use our bath/shower tub. And some times I tie him to the fence/deck and spray him down with the hose. :reddogx
