Does your Golden use either one and if so what kind?

Tara has a GReat big round one that is big enough for me to sleep in. It has cedar chips in it so it stays cool and clean smelling

Murphy has a BIG bed that's beside our bed....not sure what's in it - it came from LLBean, but it is comfy!
He also has a smaller bed in the living room that he uses sometimes for naps.
He has a sheepskin bed on the back porch and a dog house filled with straw.
He didn't use a crate.
Geez, he has more places to sleep than we do!!

We don't use a crate b/c there's no room for one in our house. Jake has taken over the kids' bean bag chair so I'm thinking of getting him a fluffy bed of his own! :)

Allie has both a crate and a dog bed. I actually made the dog bed myself.

I don't know what I would do with out a crate! I have the Drs. Fosters and Smith brand plastic crate, very similiar to the Vari Kennels only a different color.
Tucker has a huge dog bed with sheepskin on one side and denim on the other. It's a Woolrich brand that I bought at Target for like 34.99 on sale! I love TARGET! :029
I have heard the LL Bean dog beds are awesome, although a bit spendy. :woofpup

I have a 46' black wire crate that I got when Bear was 14 weeks old after he grew out of the pack in play, it's great for housetraining and keeping him out of mischief when I'm not around. He has 2 beds, here's one of them wtih Bear at 13 weeks:

I got the bed at target too, it was on sale for 29.99.
I got another bed at walmart for that price for the size, both big for him. Now that he lives with me fully, the crate is here, it's open, so he goes in there once in awhile. He sleeps everywhere and likes to move around from once place to another.

Rockne loves his dog bed, but not too found of his crate. We have one but rarely use it.

Also try Costco. I bought a huge, 42" round bed stuffed with fiber and cedar shavings. One side is faux sheepskin and the other side is a cooler, canvas-like fabric. The piping around it is a thick corded material. Cost= $18.99. :029

Liberty uses a plastic crate, but when she's out of it she likes the bed we got Snuggles. It is flat with stuffed edges, and Snuggles doesn't like it. I also made Snuggles a fleece blanket which she likes, for upstairs.

that's the one we got. We actually got two of them right before we got Cooper. They are awesome and my dogs love them. We had the Costco ones before, they were basically the same thing, but rectangle instead of round and didn't have the fancey cording on the sides. They lasted us for 4 years.
They smell so good and the covers are easy to wash.
Cooper has his dogbed and a crate. He never goes in his crate on his own though, the dogbed is right next to it, so he sleeps on that a lot. We put him in his crate at night though, and when we are gone.

Concerning the crates, do you guys suggest the Vari-Kennel type or the steel wire ones they can see better out of?

I think it depends on each person and how they feel comfortable with. There is a bit more safety with the Vari-kennel. There's more of a chance that the paws can get stuck on the wired crates. Bear did that twice, luckily I was there to help him out. After that he never did that again, I think he realizes what happens if he gets his paws in there. With the crate, I have a dark sheet over it so it soothes him when he was younger or if there were people in the living room.

I tend to use comforters for a dog bed, at least at first. It is easy to pick up and throw in the washer, just in case. I fold it to dog bed size, so that is about 4 layers of comforter which gives plenty of comfort. I use a 46" wire crate. I had a foster escape on me once, luckily no damage, so I took twist ties to reinforce all the edges and seems of the crate, just in case. Just make sure to tuck in the ends of the twist ties so a pup doesn't chew on them. I've found that some dogs don't like the vari-kennel, I think they are claustrophobic. It all depends on the dog.

Riley has 2 crates - one in our bedroom and one in our family room. I don't know what we would do without them. They are great for potty training or when you can't watch them all of the time. The one in the family room is black wire and the other is the vari-kennel. She seems to like both and it definately makes me feel better knowing she is safe when I can't watch her. We are very consistent in putting her in them so she will actually go in herself to take a nap even when she doesn't have to be in it.

We have the bed...if we could just have our Golden now. :woofpup Well, I'm saving that bed for when the perfect time arrives for us to bring our own Golden pup home! I just have to convince our LITTLE dog first!
In the meantime, I'm living vicariously through all of YOU! banana paw
