Hi All,
I was wondering how often you put your dogs' bowls, kongs, toys, ect. in the diswasher?
Thank! :) :dogbark

After every use :) I admit, I'm probably not normal in this respect. I have a sister who washes her dog's dish maybe once every 6 months !!!

But I home cook for Daisy, it's not dry food, so my situation is probably different than alot of others.

Her water dish, probably every other day. It gets slimy, have you noticed that? I use stainless steel ... maybe that has something to do with it ??

I wash my dogs bowls before every feeding. I just wash them in the kitchen sink, with warm water and a splash of dish soap, then rinse them real well.

I rinse Coopers Kong with hot water after everytime I put treats in there. Never thought of putting it in the dishwasher, but will try that next time :)

Food bowls are washed with dish soap each day. Toys, that is those can be washed, are only washed if they have been outside in the dirt.

I also wash before each feeding, but in the sink with hot water.
I only clean the kong if I stuff it with something- usually Rockne just likes to chew on it w/ nothing inside it?? Never put it in the dishwasher though

food bowl is washed after every meal, even tho its just kibble. Water bowl is rinsed out everytime I refill (I use stainless steel also). :p maybe i'm just a nut for clean bowls!

Okay, you guys are making me look bad. I only stick the bowls in the dishwasher when they start to look grimy. Probably once a month.

Water bowl gets rinsed every time it is filled. After they eat they often take some water and food residue gets washed off into the bowl. That makes it a good breeding ground for bacteria. This might sound a bit over the top but, I only give the dogs filtered or bottled water. My feeling is if I wouldn't drink why should they. The food bowls are put in the diswasher every night.

But I'm a Baddddd Mommy, her food dish only gets cleaned once a week, unless she has had spegetti

Both bowls washed in dishwasher once a week (dry food).
Water bowl gets rinsed and refilled several times a day.

Toys in dishwasher if very dirty (like the other day, after the mud-pile incident).

Tap water for drinking because that's what we drink. We have city water here in the 'burbs, as opposed to well water, so if it's good enough for us, it's good enough for the dog. But if we had to use bottled drinking water for drinking and cooking, I'd do the same for Ralphie.

I'm going to start washing the bowls every night. If they don't fit in the dishwasher, I'll do it by hand.

Call me manic-but I wash Merlin's food bowl every night-in the dishwasher....I change his water bowl about 4 times a day at present-because it's summer here-and with other dogs staying they go through ALOT of water!!!!(I should say 'bowls'-I have several water bowls around the place)

The question is... would you serve a meal on yesterdays plates for yourself and your family? Why should a dog be expected to eat out of a dirty bowl? I know they eat junk while they're outside but I guess it's just their version of a MacDonalds!!!
Food bowls should be taken up and washed after every meal, water bowls should be rinsed before every fill and washed once a day. That slimy, slavery deposit is a perfect breeding ground for bugs.

Abby's food bowl gets washed after every meal ... her water bowl get's at least rinsed, if not washed, at least once a day. Y'all are right ... it gets slimy and ickyyuckynasty .... wouldn't you just love to know what they're leaving behind in that water?

Romeo has several bowls and I toss the ones that were used that day in the dishwasher every night. Just think of all the bacteria that is growing in them if you don't clean them right away.
If I wouldn't eat out if it I don't want him to either. We want a happy healthy puppy!

I was the water bowl every few days, and rinse it multiple times a day. The outside water bowls get rinsed and flipped over after every use. We haven't used the food bowls in a long while. They're setting atop the crates right now, great for toy storage.

Do you wash your dogs food dish everyday? If so, how?

I assume that if he ate every known kind of poop to man as a pup when I wasnt looking that a little dirt on his bowl wouldnt hurt him. I washed the bowls about once a week. I work in construction and know about tap water and wouldnt drink it for nothing. Yea, it probably has enough chlorine in it to kill most bacteria, but the rusty old pipes it runs through and the dirt that gets into the lines when they break are enough to make me pass on it.

I wash Belle's bowls every day. She has a bunch so its not a problem. There is always a clean one. I wash them in the sink not the dishwasher. I'm sure the dishwasher would get them cleaner. I try to wash them as I remove them after she has eaten. If not I try to catch everything up at night. I give her filtered water, our water in this area is terrible. My vet told me a long time ago to always use filtered water with my pets.I rinse her water bowl and refill it everyday several times. I take it up at night and wash it and refill it for the next day.

I wash the feeding bowls with hot water & soap after each meal. I have a large stainless steel water bowl that both use. It is filled a couple of times a day with bottled water as we (humans) do not drink our tap water or the well water. Water bowl is thoroughly cleaned every other day or so.

I use plastic (food grade) dish pans instead of stainless. The big square pans don't tip over . (I own some stainless dog dishes but Berr considers them play toys) I free feed, but I empty the food dish at least once a week and wash it. They only get kibble, so it's usually not really dirty. The water dish gets washed every other day or so, because it gets kibble crumbs in it.
