Which type of Golden do you prefer?

Actuallly, Laura, Kinsey has English Golden on both sides but especially on the sire's side. The little avatar photo is awful, as my husband says, because she looks so dark and she's not. As I've mentioned in another thread, Kinsey has Malagold, Asterling, Whirlwind and a bunch of English Show lines (CH lines) and other lines that I have no idea as to their "meaning etc". Now, Kinsey is a pet. Her breeders do show - if they have a dog that is show. They did keep one male of her little for show potential. Kin is line bred and in researching, I've found many more pre and suffixes that are not on this initial predigree from the breeder. After Kinsey is spayed, we will get the official AKC pedigree. I assume this is how it is supposed to be officially handled. :204

I ADORE my Rider boy (he is American) and love both lines actually but if it came down to preference I would have to say English. Love those blocky heads and bodies. Though I do not prefer the lighter creams as much as the light to medium golds. paw

I don't have a preference, but I know people do. Even though my two have some of the same lines in them, people are more drawn to Tucker's looks than Shadow's.

Actually, it's not so much the difference between American and English, but the differences in the look of Field and Conformation. Tucker looks conformation and Shadow looks more Field. Both are conformation.

I just look for the Golden Heart. That seems to run in all of them.

I love all Goldens; but when given a choice, I would not choose cream or real dark red either. I prefer light blonde to lighter med. gold red. I like an active dog; one that is not too large, around 24inches at the shoulder & preferably not over 75lbs. (AKC Standard) as an adult. I prefer a medium head just somewhat blocky but not overly exceptionally so. Also, as far as coat, not too short & not too long prefer a thicker medium length with contrasting color feathering if possible. As for personality laidback or assertive is fine with me. So as to Eng. or Am. I guess I may lean a little more toward Am. or maybe a combo of both. My present dogs are from Am. bloodlines with both conformation & field titled dogs in the pedigrees. :dogbark :reddogx

I prefer the American lines because, to me, a Golden should be, well, gold. I don't care if it's light gold or dark red/gold, but gold it is!!

The English lines are stunningly beautiful. But they're too white or cream. What happened to the Golden Retriever?

I love the golden goldens too. We wanted dark ones and had a hard time finding some. So I guess that is American :)

I prefer Englisch, although you don't see american goldens over her. About the colour, I prefer no to dark or cream, but if I had to choose between a very dark and a very pale, I choose the pale. The dark goldens are to dark/red for me. When you take a golden ring (or something like that) and you hold it in the coat, you will see that the dark goldens don't have a golden colour.
I had a cream bitch who still looked very you when she was 10 years old, you couldn't see her grey hairs.

All of my Goldens, past and present, have been of European lines and they have all been GOLDEN. I don't know whether it is just the reproduction of colour but a lot of the American lines seem to be be more rusty than golden. This is not intended as a put down but an observation. They seem almost as dark as the Red Setter. Maybe I should just adjust my colour control !!!

Someday, I'd love to own an English look golden. I simply LOVE the blocky face and the cream / white color. I found one recently, but it was WAY to pricey (my husband actually laughed at me :( ) But someday ....

:) For now, I love my golden/lab mix ... she perfect :) (in her mommy's eyes)

I love all Goldens; but when given a choice, I would not choose cream or real dark red either. I prefer light blonde to lighter med. gold red.

That's funny, I'm the opposite! I prefer the red and the pale cream/light gold colors over the medium shades... Of course they're all beautiful!

I noticed someone thought their avatar picture was too dark-- your Golden looks nice and light in that picture to me...

Also someone mentioned adjusting the color on their monitor so I just wanted to add---
On my monitor, for photos (that haven't been altered) to be their true/correct color and not look too dark I need to turn the lightness/brightness and other knob (contrast?) on my monitor ALL the way up.
If I turn these knobs down at all and look at a photo of my Ginger, she looks as dark as an Irish Setter or even darker, which she isn't. She is very red but it is a bright red.

I love goldens period! I always have, but I didn't know much about English or American so I took a few minutes to research it. I prefer English. I like the blockier heads and the shorter snouts. I am not very particular on color, but being a blond myself, I prefer true golden. (wish my highlights looked like hers)

Quick question to make sure I have this right-field coats are shorter, show coats are longer? I prefer field coats if that is the case and I thought that was what I was getting. Both her parents had shorter coats, but something tells me she won't. I can't believer the hair she has at 10 weeks. It already gets matted if I don't brush it everyday. yikes!

As smoeone else has already said, I love the Golden heart. It doesn't matter to me what the color is or the lineage.

As ya'll can see, I have a blond, my girl Cassie, and a darker gold, my boy Carter. She is from a show line, and he is from a field line. His coat seems a little longer and he's got the "classic" blocked Golden face and her coat seems a little shorter, with a thicker undercoat and less blocked head and face. Both are beautiful to me and I wouldn't care if they were green and from Mars. Breeders have been able to do alot of things as to shape and color but the most important part, gladly, remains constant. They are the most loving, caring, and sweetest creatures God ever put on this earth and I thank him everyday for lending us such a treasure.

Besides, when it gets right down to it, they're all of Scottish decent anyway. http://www.topgoldenretrieversites.net/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

I like the medium gold to darker red coats to be honest.I don't really care for the almost white coats. Some people don't care for the darker irishsetter reds,I think Irishsetter red is beautiful though.I love the color!Bosco is the same color as my wood floors its funny how he blends in with the rich golden red tones. When the sun hits his coat as hes running or looking out a widow,it shines and is soooo rich.I could go on and on... cheerleade

We have lots of lighter cream shades in Australia.
Bronco has English lines and has the big blocky head and is a big boned dog.And very light in colour.Which of course I love.

Monty has American lines and is more golden.

I like the Golden colours as we dont see them often.

Muskoka is cream, although as she gets older (she's two now) a lovely light golden shade is developing in her back and face (almost honey). When we went to the breeder to she had two litters we could choose from the cream litter, that she came from, and one that was light golden. I went to the light golden litter to look and my husband and two sons were playing with the cream coloured puppies...so guess that's why we have a cream puppy... :reddogx

I guess I prefer both.

Murphy (American) on left and Bubba (English) on the right.

I love the red Goldens. I have had both and love the blondes too but prefer the red. I think the English look more like Labs and chubbier.

Our first Golden Jesse was a dark golden, he was just stunning. We have had blondes, mediums and I love them all. My husband told me a while back that before our dog days are over he would love to have another red Golden :029
Cowboy was very light as a pup, when he reached two he started getting darker, he's now probably a medium gold. Don't y'all think he would be conisdered a medium gold?
