I'm planning to buy a grooming table for my golden - she is 57 to 62 pounds, not too tall, a female. I see there are different size tables and arms - anyone know what to recommend for this size dog? I have read that a table that is too large encourages them to move around alot. Thanks for your advice! :dogbark

An adjustable 24 x 36 should be big enough. BTW: I think it's a good idea to use a table. I think it gives you more control over the dog and it's easier on the old back.

I agree with johnwa, both about the size of table, and that it really does make grooming a lot easier! :) The arm comes as an attachment (usually sold separately, in my experience), and is adjustable - you can clip it anywhere you want on the table, and raise or lower the height as needed.

When do you start needing it?
At about what age of the dog?

What's different from a regular folding table?

Is this one of the thing I have to buy before I get the puppy or much later?

Thanks.

You can buy the table anytime. :) It's not something you necessarily have to get, but it does make it easier to groom, since it puts the dog at a good height (much easier on your back!), and keeps him/her from moving around too much.

I didn't get one myself until my younger dog was about 5 months old, though I think if you get the chance it would be easier to start the puppy off being groomed on the table in the first place. A regular folding table that would allow you to work with the dog at a comfortable height would work too - if it's strong enough to handle the weight of a full-grown Golden, of course! Just make sure to put a non-slip surface (i.e. rubber matting) on top of it so the pup doesn't skid around. I would also recommend getting a grooming arm for the table, so if you're using a table not meant for grooming, just make sure it'll accomodate the clamp on the arm. (The clamps are adjustable, so this shouldn't be a problem.)

Thanks for the advice regarding the table. I finally ordered it. Does anyone know which breed requires the 33" arm versus the taller 48" arm? I realize they are adjustable, but I guess I'll just have to try it out and see what works for her. This site is a great resource for dog owners - thanks to everyone for your input. :dogbark
