I have a concern regarding my 4 month old goldens eyes. Marley tends to have a lot of discharge from his eyes. Usually it is pretty thick and gathers around the inner corners of his eyes and are like... I dont know how else to put this but, um eye boogers? I am constantly wiping his eyes to get rid of it, but it is most apparent after he has just woken up. I am unsure if this is cause for alarm. It doesnt appear to bother him any, he doesnt give me any reason to suspect that he is in pain or discomfort. What do you guys think? Normal or possible defect, should I get him to a vet STAT? I am just very concerned about my little guys health and well being and would like to hear some of your opinions.
thanks so m

This is not normal. A goldens ears should not be teary or have eye boogers. I would call you vet and make an appointment. It sounds like something is irritating his eyes! I hope you get it cleared up soon. :)
Keep us posted.

I would go see an Ophthalmologist - KCGoldens is right... A goldens eyes should not be teary or have eye boogers.
It could be a number of things.

Let's see eye boogers?

They can be caused by many things. Some can require a trip to the Vet, others do not.

If the pup is out to play in areas with a lot of dust, pollen, and other airborne junk, the stuff collects in the eyes, and gradually works it's way to the corners, and those ugly little eye boogers are formed.

I have been told differently. Clancy has this problem often, mostly in one eye but occasionally in both. It is an almost clear, and we also call it eye boogers. Our vet said that he has deep set eyes and it was nothing to worry about. His eyes are quite droopy.

As well as goopy eyes, do they also appear to droop on the lower lids and expose the haw of the eye and have a hound-type appearance?
If so, this is perfectly normal for a 4 month old male Golden puppy.
At this age their head is growing and changing shape very quickly, this often means that the skin around their eyes is loose which allows dust, pollen etc to irritate the eye and the eyes defence mechanism is to coat it with 'gloop'to neutralise the irritation.

Quite often at this age they can also have 'tear stains' around the eyes which is also because their skin is loose around the eyes for the same reason as above.
If you feel uncomfortable about it, by all means ask your vet but I would not expect that it will be anything serious.

Could be your little guy may have some allergy probs going on. Does his eyes look good otherwise? Are they red or irritated? Make sure you look for any foreign objects such as dirt or grass or anything else he could've gotton stuck in there. Do you have another dog or cat that may have scratched his eye? As long as the eyes are clear otherwise it may just be a temporary allergy problem! Have the vet check them if you find anything out of the ordinary. Eye problems are nothing to mess around with a corneal scratch can turn into an ugly infection if not treated promptly :eek
