When Hiking, what should always be packed

Since summer is here and were all out and about now with our goldens, what should always be packed before we head out<img border=0 src="http://www.topgoldenretrieversites.net/smiles/415.gif" /></span>

OK. This should be a No Brainer, however I see it all the time. I go for a hike, or often at the beach I will see dogs who don't have access to WATER.

Owners will bring a water bottle for themselves, but no water for their best buddy.

ALWAYS water your dogs, even for short hikes in the hot summer days.

Ginger is going for a backpacking title/badge, and the organization requires certain items to be carried in the dog's pack. I think many of these items are good things to keep in the pack (yours or theirs!) at all times. Here is a list of the required items:

water
water bowl
extra leash and collar
clean-up bags
first aid kit (small)
flashlight
matches
compass
knife
owner's ID (something with the owner's name/info on it... I found a great downloadable 'tag' online)
map of the area (if needed)

I also think it's a good idea to have two full-size first aid kits available: One in the house, one in the car...
