Hello everyone!
Our 5-month-old little (OK, not so little anymore!) guy has a habit of peeing when he gets really excited (usually around people other than my hubby & I).
Is this something he will grow out of, or is there something we need to work on with him?
He is around people a fair amount of time (neighbors, friends, relatives, etc.) and it doesn't matter what the setting is (vet's office, out on walks, at home).
Thanks for any thoughts / input!!!

Hi, this sort of problem can be frustrating. Our older female golden had this problem. She whould happily and excitedly greet people..and then pee! :o
It took years for it to fully clear up. :(
Here is a link that has some good info. on the subject.
Submissive urination (http://www.perfectpaws.com/subr.html)
Important things to remember that will help, get your golden outside to greet people, if they accidentally pee in the house it can cause them to become frustrated.
If they pee, ignore it, do not get angry or reassure them.
This is not that uncommon of a problem, and they will grow out of it. :)

Thanks for the link! I think it is probably caused by the fact that whoever comes to visit usually greets him with excitement, and he is reacting that that excitement. I will try instructing our guests / friends, etc to stay calm upon introduction (it is hard because he is just so darn cute!)

I just wanted to add that Clancy used to do this when he was a puppy. He stopped, at around 8 - 12 months, not sure when, it just stopped.
I was told this is quite normal, as long as it stops. I have heard of some dogs who never stop doing it, but it is not very common.
I think that having your dog act calm when people arrive is very important, whether they pee or not. We used to have people come over to practice with Clancy since he LOVES visitors, and would go beserk when they arrived. The visitor would arrive, ask for a sit from Clancy, when he responded they would give a treat which we kept by the door. Then while he was calm with Butt firmly on the ground, they would pat him and say HI. We used the same technique when we came home too. We would always ask for a sit and then say HI.
