Ciara has an itchy spot on her lower back almost between her hips.I use Advantix on her so I know it's not fleas. Her skin is not dry or flakey she does not have dandruff.I have looked at the area several times and I can't see anything wrong with it.Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?Is there anything I can put on it to help with the itching?

It may be allergies. Your evt will put the dog on prednisone, something you don't want to do. It's not healthy-- they will use it as a temporary fix for seasonal allergies. What type of food does she eat? You may want to switch to Wellness, an all-natural food that doesn't have many common allergens like wheat and corn.

It may be allergies--the vet will put her on prednisone, for seasonal allergies (they can't have it for extended periods of time) but you don't want to do that because then it's like helping them and then eventually you have to take her off of the drug, and then she'll notice the itching more. What kind of food does she eat? Try switching her to Wellness, which doesn't have common allergens like corn and wheat. It will take 6-8 weeks to see results after switching food.

I agree - it sounds like allergies - Porsche Louise gets like this also - I use this pink cortisone leave in conditioner called resi-cort - you can get it at the vet - rub it into the skin really good after a bath, while they are wet, especially trouble areas, and you will see a difference. Hartz also makes a cortisone spray that works pretty well also. I give PL benadryl when she is especially itchy. Take care of it now, so it doesn't become a hot spot. I have dealt with this also... I think my dog has more hair products than I do :b
