I use stainless steel for my girls, unless you count the sneak toilet slurps as a ceramic option!

I too use stainless, but have a hard plastic one in the car for drinks on the road. I do mandatory drinks now and again for Tailer. I think he forgets to stop & drink as often as I think he needs it! Crazy Mom, I know!
He also drinks out of one of those pull top squirt bottles when we are hiking. The neighbor calls him a Gerbil Dog now...gurrr...
Never drinks out of the toilet...too much chlorine in the town water here!

I use stanless steel as well. they are much safer. When mine were younger they would break the plastic ones. And I did not want them eating the pastic.
I do keep a plastic one in the car for a quick drink.
Golden Retriever=Chew, chew chew.
Plastic gets demolished and glass or ceramic maybe break since I use a raised platform to feed.
Rusty learned as a little pup to drink from a water bottle when we're out. Very convienent and he has his own bottle which is a different color. I love my dog but I've seen what he picks up in his mouth so he can't share my bottle.

I started out using a steel bowl but Sam would never drink out of it. I searched through the threads and someone suggested that the steel bowl sometimes scares them. I switched to a ceramic bowl and now he drinks out of it more often. Not as much as I like (he prefers puddles - Yuck  ) but atleast he does drink.

I use ceramic, because they are heavier. The other ones don't stay at their place when they lick their bowl.

We use a stainless steel bowl for water because of its large size and reasonable price. I use ceramic bowls for food because they have pretty patterns on the side, and paw prints on them. :o I just thought they were cute. :o Also I have heard both stainless steel and ceramic are more sanitary than plastic...

Outside, by the pool we normally use stainless steel. Inside, in the kitchen we have a Drinkwell Big Dog water fountain. We found this works well for our two boys. I have a confession, on hot weekends (which is most weekends in Florida) when we are in the pool, we fill a cooler full of ice and water and let the dogs have fun with it. :D

I've used ceramic or glass for my dogs. Somewhere along the line, I had heard (and have no idea from who) that the stainless steel has a tendancy to rub the dogs noses and they're not as black as they could have been (the noses). Not sure if there's any truth to this.........has anyone else ever heard of this? :grwag x2

I use ceramic bowls that fit right into a raised feeder (so he can't get them out and break them).
I didn't really give the options much thought. Instead, I use this because it was a "New Doggie" gift from my brother and his family. Plus, Seamus is not picky...he eats and drinks out of toilets, puddles, etc....yuck!

The Goldens eat and drink out of 2 hard plastic dish tubs. The rectangle-buy them at the dollar store--kind. I free feed, so I fill them up with food and water and don't worry about it. The water gets changed daily. They get washed weekly. I started the malt off with a stainless puppy pan but she prefers the plastic dish tub, so I got her a small plastic bowl for her puppy kibble. Ceramic is too heavy (in the size I would want) and the golden princess doesn't like stainless. Berr, on the other hand, drinks from the toilet and eats anywhere.....

We use heavy ceramic bowls. No special reason other than the SS bowls usually ended up somewhere across the room after being chased around while trying to get that last morsel from the side of the dish
Oh... That and the wife thought the ceramic ones were "cute."<O:p
One huge bowl for water and two slightly smaller ones for food.<O:p
When they're out side I use one of those "Rubbermaid" tubs for their water but they'll drink from any water source. Their favorite is the water hose when I have the nozzle on "Jet" or "Shower." They love to bite at the water. It's almost impossible to water the plants. When they are in an especially playful mood we all come back soaked to the skin. My wife just hands three towels out the back door and stands guard while she watches us clean up.

We use these iron decorative wall hanging bowls. The get-up came with stainless steal thankfully.

We use a plastic 9 gallon water dispenser, kind of like a water cooler, only no cooler part! Our lab mix always would pick up the water bowl with her teeth and literally dump it all over the floor! After trying different ones with different weights this was the only thing she can't pick up! It is a bear to refill (too heavy for me), so DH gets that honor. It is amazing to me how they can slobber! And the bowl part gets so full of dirt, it is amazing! It gets changed every 2-3 days at the least (thirsty girls, I guess). In the summer I just put a plastic dish on deck and sure enough, Zoey picks it up and dumps it still!Ice cubes in it will make her dump it even faster! It used to be so fun (not!) to clean up the mess on the kitchen floor. Only down side is that these containers also break (spring a leak) and we have come home to a wonderful
flood!

Muskoka started with stainless, until the racoon broke into our cottage and ate out of her bowls. Even though they were washed in the dishwasher after, she would never eat from them again. She was even afraid to go near them for the rest of that summer....I have one very brave golden :204

I discovered that using my grandmother's large stainless steel old-fashioned dish pans suit the purpose nicely for my herd. She had several and we put them in the enclosure and in the yard during this hot weather and change them twice a day or when dry. They all seem to drink well and keep hydrated, wish my husband would learn from their lesson.

:054 I know there was a thread on here somewhere about what kind of feeding dishes you use, but I cannot find it. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction, or give me some insight into why you chose metal or ceramic bowls?
We are going to buy an elevated feeder (I found that thread), but I don't know if I want to use the kind with the ceramic dishes or the metal. They come both ways. I am partial to the ceramic because we use the metal ones now and I'm ready for something different. And, they are so cute with all the paw prints on them.

We use raised stainless steel. No reason besides liking the raised tray they were on.

We use stainless steel in a raised feeder. Heard it was better for large dogs, and when Orla was a puppy she just stood on 2 legs to dringk from the raised feeder. I found it discouraged stepping into and playing with the water. I just throw the bowl in the diswasher to get them clean.
