I tried a search but couldn't find any postings on this. My crazy girl has a weird habit of eating the leaves off the bushes in the front of our building as well as some of the little plants in front of the trees in front of the complex. She's been doing this for a long time without any consequences. Wondering if anyone else's golden does this. Find it hard to believe it's from a nutrient deficiency since I feed her Candidae Platinum which is pretty complete nutrtionally. Still I'm a little concerned that this may not be good for her so wanted to check what others might have experienced. Thanks!

Is she a puppy? search the puppy chronicles.....lots of stuff about pups eating grass, leaves, dirt, stones, mulch, plants, mushrooms, etc.

Certain plants can be poisonous, so ..... try a variety of word searchs, there is so much good stuff on this site, I am sure if you dig a little more you will find lots of useful info.

p.s. My dog is 4 1/2 mths old and my hands are in her mouth to pull something out......at least once a day :)

Seems as though every golden I've had has been into the plants, grass, sticks, etc. Definitely need to keep an eye on them as some are poisonous....I just wish I could distinguish between the poisonous ones and just additional roughage. But they're always into something....and Astro & McGee are only 9wks old.

Sorry, forgot to mention she's 4 yrs old now and always goes to the same bushes for the leaf eating, in front of our building. Every time we walk by she goes right over to these bushes and starts eating the leaves. Seems she knows that these are not poisonous because she's very select in the ones she eats. Been doing this every single day since I got her 4 yrs ago as a pup. No matter how hard I try to pull her away, she won't budge a muscle unless I can talk her into wanting her breakfast or dinner. And she's too quick to pull the leaves out of her mouth. I even try not letting her near the bushes but she's stronger than I am and always manages to get near enough to eat some of the leaves.

She will chew sticks and wood but only to chew on, never to swallow. Must be from her hunting instincts and genetics since mine is a field golden (dark red gold color and short, stocky in stature).

Amazing the disgusting crap she will put in her mouth. Sometimes there will be dead baby sparrows in the bushes and Maddie will find them and eat them if I don't scream "drop it" while having a panic attack. However, there have been times when she flat out refused to give it up and ate the whole thing! Very lucky she hasn't gotten sick from any of this but lord knows it makes me want to puke!
