When we first got Thunder our vet said he might be prone to dry skin and we might consider giving his some dietary supplements. Does anyone know some thing that are good to give? My vets out of town until Monday and I wanted to do some research on this over the weekend so I can discuss this with him when he gets back.
Thanks for any help. :)

Look for supplements that contain flaxseed oil.

Don't get carried away with adding supplements. A little bit over a long period of time is better than adding too much too quickly.

If the dog has a dry coat, don't over bathe the dog. If he gets muddy just rinse him off, no shampoo or conditioners.

I give Beau a tbsp of olive oil in his food a couple times a week-I do beleive it helps...we live in a very dry climate and so far Beau's skin is in good shape.

Shampoo is another thing to consider.

Porsche Louise has very itchy skin, and at times has been literally flaky... I give her fish oil - I break a tablet open and squirt it on her food once a day. It seems to hellp. My vet suggested safflower oil - less than a tablespoon on her food. Be careful with the flax seed, as in my experience, I feed PL california natural, which has omega 3, and flaxseed, etc in it. I bought the treats with flax seed in them, and it wasn't pretty on the other end, if you know what I mean...;)

The fish oil has helped, and I use resicort on her skin after swimming and a bath - you can get it from your vet - its a cortisone topical that works miracles - its expensive, but I get mine online for WAY less. Hope this helps :)
