We have 2 golden puppies that are now 6 months of age. One of them is having some troubles with his back left leg. I'm scared it could be the beginning of hip dysplasia but I've also heard that it could be a bacteria causing the problem. Does anyone have any knowledge of this bacteria or hip dysplasia in general? Please help. I don't want one of my babies to be in pain. Thanks!
If your puppy is lame for more than a day or two and keeping him off of it doesn't help take him to a good vet. That is the ONLY way to find out what is going on then get it treated accordingly. The sooner you get a professional diagnosis the sooner your puppy can be feeling better.
It could be hip dysplasia, torn crutia (spelling?) ligament, slipped patella, pano, sprained, torn muscle, twisted it playing with the other puppy.....

Contact your Vet. If it's an injury, the longer you wait, the greater the risk of the pup doing additional damage.
Goldens have very high pain thresholds, so if the pup is gimping around it REALLY hurts.

Take the dog to your vet, definitely. Hip dysplasia, though, very rarely shows up so young. At 9 months you should have preliminary hip and elbow x rays taken and sent to OFA, then final ones done at 2 years. If preliminaries are done, a THR or TPO can be done (but only before 1 year) to help or correct the problem. Dogs with hip problems shouldn't be bred.
