Well, the dawning of a new era, pet insurance, is upon us. And long awaited i say.(acctually been out for some time, but only recently gaining popularity)

Pet Insurance is one of the single, most important tools i have ever bought for Ripley.

In Canada, we have 3 companies, Pet plan(endorced by CKC), Pet Care, and Vetinsurance.

Now, if your in canada, DO research those 3 plans, BUT, you mayaswell throw out the first two. Vetinsurance is all you will EVER NEED!!! Let me explain:

While seemingly, Pet Plan, and Pet Care, are a great coverage (with only a $50 deductable) it covers a wide range of ailments, and checkups.

Vetinsurance offers 0 deductibles, and coverage up to $12,000 for the life of your pet.

Are you a renter? NO PROBLEM! VetInsurance just got sweeter.

$25,000 Third party coverage(if your dog demolishes your stuff your outta luck...But, if he eats your friends Car, Trashes your landlords house, kills the neighbors pet budgie, or tips over a ming Vase at Bill Gates house And your in the clear). Show your landlord that, much better odds of finding a place that will allow you and your faithful companion to both live together there.

If you sign up From 8weeks - 1 year old it is very reasonable at $23 a month. And a real sense of security.

Now that im done sounding like an infomercial.

What kind of programs are offered in the U.S? Somebody please, please research this issue for the U.S.A and post it, imo Pet Insurance is as important as Food and water and love.

Thanks,

Chris

What a great post! I have often thought about insuring Ella. Especially because cancer is getting more and more common in these beautiful dogs. Here are a few links I found for pet insurance in the US:

petcareinsurance.com (http://petcareinsurance.com)
petinsurance.com (http://petinsurance.com)
ppins.com/index.asp (http://ppins.com/index.asp)

Unfortunately, they all have a $50-100 deductible, but their coverage seems decent. I think I like the first link the best, myself.

I'd like to hear from someone that has actually been using the pet insurance for at least a couple of years.

well, i haven't had it a couple years, with dogs. But i had a ferret who was covered. for 3 years. Worked fabulous for me. That was a separate program however.

The canine programs are very much diffrent, but i can tell you, the company i used were truely reliable i think i paid a total of 100 dollars in 3 years of vet bills for my ferret, and he died of prolonged cancer.(ie lots of vet bills later)

I may not know everything about dogs, or goldens, or ailments, but i know one thing for sure, That program saved me over $3000 ....im hooked, i did however find a diffrent company this time.

But you are hard pressed to find alot of people who have been using insurance on thier pets for several years.

It is in my honest opinion, a key part of owning a dog in 2000's, to ensure our companions, friends, family, fuzzy room mates, have the best medical care they need, whenever they need it.

Vetinsurance is unfortunatly NOT available to the united states, it is the one formentioned above.

But there must be one with a similar package in the U.S

Keep an eye out.

Hi everybody,
My 9 month old casey has been insured since he was 7 weekds old with petinsurance.com and they are great. You can choose between 2 plans 1 is just for unexpected problems then the other which is what I have is an added coverage of regular routine visits and shots and even his neutering was covered 60%. Anyway I feel much more secure knowing he has coverage in case of something awful. When he was 5 months he developed a urinary tract infection and they covered everything except for a small deductible. I am convinced it is money well spent. Check out there website for more info.

Yep, exactly, God forbid anything happened to my boy, i have comfort knowing i'll never have to make that aweful choice between the needle, and a $5000 opperation. Because i cant afford to go into debt=P And i sure as hell wont be choosing the first option.

Goldens are great dogs, but if he decided for whatever reason to write off my friend's car interior...$25,000 goes a long way in saving you.

Third party coverage is really the deciding factor for me. Not the deductable. But Vetinsurance has the best of both worlds.
