Sabre hasn't had a bath yet (7 weeks old), when can we give him his first bath? He hasn't been in any water and that doesn't include his water dish which ends up more on the floor than in him. <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif" /> Any suggestions or helpful hints on how to give a bath and what products to us?

Thanks,
H.

I would start in the kitchen sink. Use a mild dog shampoo, be careful not to get soap in his eyes...or use a tearless shampoo. Be gentle with the water (lukewarm water)...don't just pour a whole pitcher over his head !! He'll let you know what he likes and doesn't like...you just follow his lead. Make it a happy fun event, have towel ready and be prepared for a wet mess afterwards. Pat the inside of his ears dry afterwards and be careful not to pour water in them !! Dogs HATE that :)

Daisy is 3 years. I remember how easy it was to give her a bath when she was so little. Enjoy it now while it's not such a chore !!

What else .... hmmmm...give him a treat afterwards, that's always a good idea !!

How often? Not too often. Dogs have a natural oil in their coat that's healthy -- you don't want to dry your pup's coat out. But you do want your puppy to grow up knowing what a bath is and getting used to having one. Make sure you rinse really well -- soap residue can cause problems for your pups skin. Rinse several times more after you think you've rinsed him enough.

Oh -- and take pictures !!! Wet puppies are adorable !!
