At what point did you start having your Golden professionaly groomed and about how much does it cost? I am wondering when to start Comet.
Thanks!

I don't know about the age part. I know that most breeders start them young getting them accustomed to things.
I am in Alabama and the going rate around here is between $25.00 and $40.00. The girl that charges $25 is the best...so, I am sure that rate won't last!! She does an excellent job on ears and feet.

"At what point did you start having your Golden professionaly groomed"
--There is no absolute age when you would start. I take my current GR in for a trim when the ears, feet, nails, rear, etc., start to get out of control. If it's a very young pup, I would not worry about it just yet. However, it is to your advantage to get the dog used to the comb and brush at an early age.
"and about how much does it cost? I am wondering when to start Comet."
Ditto the prior reply-post. I pay about 20 bucks. If you go to one of those chain-store groomers, it could run you 45 or more dollars.
A few tips:
1). Find a groomer in private pratice, if possible. And establish a relationship with that person.
2). Suggest that you tell the groomer to just trim the dog on your very first visit. This will prevent any misunderstanding regarding how short or long you want the hair to be. You can then decide if you want the hair to be longer, shorter, or very short. Hence, it's a personal preference. I myself like the hair on the longer side. I don't think a GR with very short hair looks good. But that's just my opinion.
3). Give your dog a bath yourself prior to bringing the dog to the groomer, and save half (if not more) of the cost of grooming.

Hi,
I will be taking my 1 year old Gus to the groomer for the first time today! The groomer charges about $25-30. Can't wait to see her all trimmed up! :032

Amber was about 10 months old, when we brought her to the groomers for the first time. We did bathe, brush and comb her ourselves prior to that though.
We live in Mass. and we pay $35.00, this is the same rate as 7 years ago. I know that new clients they charge more to. The rates vary depending on where you go $30.00-$65.00. Our groomer charges the same reguardless of bath & groom/bath only. It gets to be very costly, so sometimes during the warmer months we would give Amber a bath ourselves, and I would trim the fur around her paws, ears, tail, bib area, skirt area, and thin out areas that were way to thick. My husband was in charge of cutting her nails. She was very cooperative, except sometimes she would get away from us during the rinse phase of the bath, and she would roll around in the yard. Oh well!! :204
Sometimes if we were at the Vets, the Dr. would clip her nails. Walking Amber in the street, or sidewalk also helped to file them down.
