ok, ok, ok, so I KNOW that they shouldn't probably be bathed more then once a month (so as not to dry out their skin)...but does anyone do baths more then this? even in the winter?

Thanks,
Barbara

Lots of show people bathe their dogs 3-4 times per month and their dogs coats hold up fine. I bathe mine before a show (usually about once a month during show season-- I'll give 1 bath and then go to shows for 3 weekends in a row) or if they get really dirty-- I rarely bathe them during the off season though.

This is my first winter with Katie, so I don't have any advice about frequency in the winter months, but I have an idea. You could try washing your pup down with a warm wet washcloth rather than a full submerge in the bath if the outercoat is messy - the moisture wouldn't necessarily get through to the skin, but you would remove any dust or small debris. Keeping in mind the earlier response about showdogs, I tend to think that if you use a gentle enough shampoo, a bath more than once a month would not be damaging.

I am one of those who needs to bathe my puppy several times a month -- he's very light-colored, goes to a very dusty/muddy dog run twice daily and wrestles with other pups. So I am interested in finding a conditioner to use after shampooing him with Crazy Dog pina colada, which we all love. Can you recommend one?

I bathe Paris every week but that's only because we are getting ready for upcoming shows. My male, that I don't show, I bathe about once a month. My dogs are both stay indoors so they don't get extremely dirty.

I have never used the Crazy Dog products so I'm not sure what they're like. I know a lot of people who bathe weekly like the Best Shot products. They are inexpensive and everyone raves about the conditioner and the leave-in revitalizer. I believe you can order them from www.omahavaccine.com

Had to bathe Samson last night after my wife put him outside after the rainstorm. I came home and he is covered in mud from head to toe. He just stood there wagging his tail with that notorious muddy nose...

I give my two Goldens a bath as needed--BO or coat seems oily usually once/twice a mth. Neither of them have any specific problems with skin/coat. They are kept indoors. Both of them were in the lake every day from June-August so they kept very clean & flea/tick free without using shampoo or flea treatment. I believe the frequency of bathing & products used should be determined by the condition of a dogs skin/coat. :reddogx :dogbark

Thanks to everyone who offered advice on how to keep my pup's fur and skin nice despite frequent bathing. I followed the veteran groomer's suggestion and tried the Miracle Coat lustre leave-in conditioner. What a find! It not only produced wonderful results for look and feel of coat, but it actually repels dirt, so that when Ajax rolls in the mud, it is much easier to brush off. I only used it once but a week later, it is still in effect. I look forward to trying the shampoo.

I bathe Yogi two to four times per month using baby shampoo. So far we haven't had any problems.

I just got done giving my Golden Comet a bath with the Rapid Bath system and it worked Awsome! AWSOME!

Anyway my main question is how often can you bath a Golden? How much is too much?

Because now that it's easier for me I love bathing him!

I've also been bathing my puppy about every week or two and use Johnson's baby shampoo. I figure if it's gentle on babies, it will be gentle on her. It works great. Her fur is super soft and fluffy, she smells good and she hardly ever scratches.

Yes, you can bathe to much more then 5 days apart is too much. I have show Golden and they are bathed every 8-10 days.

I use the Pet Silk products on Rebel. I really like them. It is like Biosilk that we use on our own hair. It comes in so many types and fragrances. I love the conditioning Liquid Silk Serum to run thru their hair and you leave it in. It makes his coat shiny and soft!!!! And of course, a good smell! I get Pet Silk from Pet Edge online or www.happytailpets.com . I haven't found anything I like better at this point!!

I was told by the vet to only bathe your dog once a month...I would like to bathe him 2 times a month but I can not find a good soap free shampoo that will not effect his frontline plus.

You can bath your Golden as often as you like without worrying about damaging the coat or skin.
Golden Retrievers are a double coated breed. Regular brushing with a bristle brush and with regular use of an undercoat rake will significantly reduce shedding.
