osteomyelitis

My 8/12 year old golden find has a lump on his back.He was running a temp about 104 and we are awaiting biopsy results.After x rays of entire body no signs of cancer but this ? tumor on his spine at t10. My research suggests osteomyelitis, has anyone ever incured this?

No, never had this in any of my dogs, but the fever does suggest an infection of some kind. And my understanding of bone infections is that they are difficult to treat, if that's what it turns out to be.
