View Full Version : Slightly gross personal grooming question (Ella - not me)

I've noticed that Ella doesn't do a very good job of cleaning herself around her vagina. It always seems to be brown around there. Today I noticed that some of the fur is sticking together down there in a clump. :054

Do all of you trim your dog's pubic hair? If it can even be called that (pubic fur maybe?) Is this typical or is my dog weird for not grooming herself in that area? :204

Thanks in advance! :032

It is supposed to be brown or brownish red in color (the hair). I would pick out the clump of hair and just check it occasionally to make sure it's not matted, but the color sounds okay. Is she spayed?

Yes, she is spayed.

Thanks for calming my fears, Samra. I didn't realize the hair was brown or brownish red down there (ya learn sumthin' new every day, I guess).

So I take it you don't trim your goldens in that area?

Thanks again.

I have noticed the same thing on Cayenne. I don't thing her groomer has ever trimmed it either.

Hehe..I had to ask the same question when our male pup started growing a tuft of hair. :o

Nope, I never trim there (the hair helps direct the flow of urine, just like in male dogs).

I trim my dog's wee-wee hair, butt hair (around the base of their tails) the bottom of their feet and inside of their ears. All make for easier cleaning and less areas for things to cling!!!! (Oh, I know gross!!!)
