Just wondering, how long do you take to bathe your golden. And how long to you take to blow dry him & how do u blow dry him?

Fido is only 4mths old and i can still put him on the grooming table. What happens as he gets older..and bigger??

--Well, let's see...I comb out the lose hair first. Then I water him down. Then work the shampoo into the fur. Then rinse throughly. I don't remember, I guess it could take about 15-20 minutes; It's not something that we usually time with a stop watch, we just do it.
As far as drying is concerned, I allocated a few towels that we use just for the dogs. When necessary, we use one of those hand-held dryers to help with the drying process. I guess the drying process could take about 10-15 minutes. Again, it's not something that we usually time ourselves on.

--My dog is considerably older than your's and I still place him on a grooming table. I just think it's easier and faster when you're at eye level with the dog. And it's certainly easier on the old back. I built a set of steps for the grooming table, so all the dog has to do is go up the steps for grooming. It's kind of funny to watch.

Daisy is 2-1/2 and it takes a good 1-1/2 hours to bathe her. I won't even attempt it without a detachable showerhead. I put on an old teeshirt (that's all!) and get right in there with her. We're both soaking wet by the time it's over. It's hard work and it wears me out !!

I don't blow her dry. I tried once but she ran to the other end of the house. I just towel dry her, let her shake and brush her out really well.

She's funny after a bath. She runs through the house at break-neck speed, rubbing up against anything she can (usually the side of the bed or couch). She's really quite the spaz for awhile afterwards :003

I remember when she was a young puppy, bathing her was a piece of cake. Those days are forever gone. I do so miss my puppy :pawprint

I had to laugh when I read Jo Ellen's response! Sedona does the same thing after her bath, and guess what? I wear the same outfit you do to bathe the dog!! It's just easier. The first time I was going to give her a bath I was expecting her to put up a fuss (as our other dog hated getting a bath!). Well, was I ever surprised. Sedona LOVES her bath. In fact, no one can take a bath if she is anywhere around or else she wants in too - and sometimes that happens! It's getting her out of the tub that's the problem. She fights it with all she's got and will jump back in if she can escape from me. lol!

So, to answer your question "how long does it take?" Could be hours.........

Over here grinning ear to ear..because I do the samething ya'll do..grab that old T-shirt and get in the tub with Hunter. I would say it takes us about 30 minutes to a hour to bathe Hunter. I had to invest in a shower sprayer tho, just using a large cup on him wasn't cutting it. I also got me one of those mit scrubbers that goes on your hand to wash them..he loves it. I am so very proud of my Hunter..when I tell him to get in ..he does..he also waits until I lay out the towel on the floor before he jumps out..after that..he is all over the house rubbing up againest things to dry off. :lol

My dogs get crazy after baths too. Delta rubs up against anything (the couch, the wall, my BED) to try and dry off, and she rolls wildly outside if I let her out while she's still wet.

I used to just walk Lucy into the shower with me and bath her first with the detachable shower head...towel dry and let her out into the closed bathroom to lay on a towel while I then bathed. When I would turn her loose in the house she would rub and roll all over everything! We recently got a Pet Supplies Plus about 5 minutes away and the last two times I have taken her there. For $5.00 you can use the dog sink(the dogs walk up a ramp and into the sink and then you close a door on the sink). It has the detachable shower head and is SO much easier on the back!! They supply the soap and towels. I take my own soap though. They have a great blow dryer that is so much more powerful and faster that my home blow dryer. They also supply a waterproof apron. I was able to wash and blow dry her in record time. Worth the $5.00!!!AND I didn't have to clean up!!!:032

Wow! I really wish we have this kind of service here! $5 is such a steal!

Goldenjack, care to share a pic of your grooming table with steps?

OMG!!!!!!!!! Maddie does the SAME thing!!!!!!!!

She's a freak after her bath!!!!!! Runs around the house like a mad woman!!!! :485

I did blow dry her when she was younger - but now that it's so warm out.... I usually just take her outside after and let her "air dry" :lol

Maddie sorta kinda fights me going into the tub - but once she's in - she's fine - she doesn't try to get out.....

Pretty good in the wet mommy department too - sometimes I get wet - sometimes I don't.... :029

The bigger she gets... the longer it does take to wash her... I think I'm at about 45 minutes from shampoo to conditioner!!!!

Hi,
Ginger also goes nuts after a bath!! It's really funny because she is normally such a calm, relaxed dog... But she gets that wild look and tears around like an insane dog EVERY TIME she's had a bath! It's kinda like FRAPs but she doesn't do those very often anymore, and even when she does she doesn't go anywhere near as crazy as with bathtime-- she will dash around and LEAP onto the furniture and then off (something she never does any other time) and then run into the hallway, doing laps like this over and over... It's just hilarious to see. My terrier Pooch also gets a little bath-crazy, but he doesn't run around so much- what he does is grab the towel when I'm drying in and 'kill' it (shake and yank.)

Jo Ellen, I know what you mean- it's exhausting! I always have a backache after I bathe Ginger in the tub... We no longer have a detachable shower so it's REALLY difficult now (I need one!) I usually just wear pjs or something to wash the dogs... Or a bathing suit :D

I think I take about an hour to wash Ginger, not including drying time. I don't use a blow dryer because I don't have one with a 'cool' setting. When I go to the dog wash or take her to the groomer, it probably takes another 30-40+ minutes to force-dry all the water out.

If you just keep picking your puppy up and praising him for not squirming(and for standing well on the table) you should be able to continue to get him up on the table as he gets older. If he gets too heavy, you can make steps out of boxes or milk crates and lead him up onto the table.

Oh yes... All my dogs love to sprint around the house right after bathing. Its like "look look! I'm all clean & smelling great". Luckily Fido doesn't have a chance to do that YET. I always carried him from the bathroom to the grooming table. Thats always how i got wet. He's very good during bathing I would say, he'll lay down quietly and let me do whatever i wanted.

We also have a place that we can take our Bailey for a bath...it isn't $5, it is $13.99, but seems SOOO worth it to not mess up our house, get that much hair in our drains, and strain my back. Plus they have GREAT water pressure that gets the soap out wonderfully!! (DH and I just discovered this place, and we can't wait to go again to bathe the puppy!!!<img border=0 src="http://www.topgoldenretrieversites.net/smiles/485.gif" />)
