Just starting to think of things to buy before pup comes home, I want to be prepared! What brand of Shampoo and Conditioner are you using on your Goldens?? Using anyother styling aids?? Any leave in conditioners?? Thank you for your time!

To this day, we use the same mild puppy shampoo and conditioner; cleans great, works great and does not irritate the eyes.
Avoid those over the counter flee/tick shampoos, they might cause a severe reaction on your dogs skin; instead, ask your vet for solutions to any flee/tick problems.

I have a couple of brands I really like for my dogs...
One is Earthbath. They make several types of shampoos and they are very safe and mild--no detergents. I have used the Mango Tango and Coat Brightener shampoos, Oatmeal conditioner and the Orange Peel bath bar (I take that one with when we go on vacation).
I also really like 'Veterinary Formula' brand. I used their Red Dog shampoo and also Ultra Fluff, which left the dogs' coats feeling really nice, and the stuff smells great!
I often use Lambert Kay's Fresh n Clean creme rinse after a bath, which leaves a lasting scent. I also use this diluted with a lot of water before I take the dogs swimming, and when they come out they feel and smell like they just got bathed!
Another I used in the past is Pet Silk (I used their Red Enhance for Ginger :)

Hi Bittersweet I use Pro-Glo Top Performance on Honey. I order it through Pet Edge. I order a gallon at a time because it is concentrated and you get about 15 gallons by the time you mix it. The jug says 11 but I usually get about 15 because I mix it thinner. It adds protein, builds body, highlights all colors and has a rich conditioning formula that is ph balanced. She never gets tangled and looks shiny for weeks. Should we do a commercial???:b I try to bath her at least every 2 weeks. She loves the pond and if I go very long in between baths she smells really bad!!! As a matter of fact tomorrow is bath day!!! She really needs it. It has rained here since yesterday so she is muddy!!!
Look at her! lol

Thanks for answering...I'll probably try one that you all have tried! Those pictures are just great! I have a feeling that is what our little baby will look like when she grows up!! (I don't know how I am going to contain myself for another 6 and a half weeks!)<img border=0 src="http://www.topgoldenretrieversites.net/smiles/jump2.gif" />

Hello... we are going to be bringing our puppy home with us this weekend. At some point I'm going to want to give her a bath... once she's had a few days to settle in. I had bought baby shampoo after reading on here. But my husband pointed out that the PH requirement of human/dog shampoos are greatly different... with dogs requiring about 7.5.
So my question is what type of shampoo would you recommend for giving puppy a bath?
Thanks a bunch!

I've never checked the pH on it, but I've been buying/using the Mane and Tail shampoo that is for horses...it's relatively inexpensive and works great for all that Golden hair! But, maybe for the first few months of your pup's life, you may want to stick to a dog specific shampoo since they are so little and all. I've used the Mane/Tail for my girls as adults with no problems and great coats!

Hi Sandra,
please don't use human shampoo ever. Buy a puppy one if you have to give your puppy a bath but please make sure you don't bath her too often. It's not good for their skin and the rest.
It's really easy with golden fur because the dirt is easily brushed out.. I only use shampoo on our Molly if she rolls in something nasty.. then there is no other way about it because after all we need to live in the same house :D
She swims in lakes and rivers and by the time we get home and I towel dry her she is back to her cream colour.. as if by magic :D

Ok, since your getting a puppy. I suggest using Johnsons Detangling Baby shampoo. Until you know what allergies your puppy might have, i suggest not using a dog shampoo unless it is made for puppies specifically and is hypoallergenic. It may take a trip to a couple different petstores, but it will be well worth it. Copper had horrible skin allergies, and certain shampoos made it worse, and some made it alot better. And puppys have sensitive skin, which makes this a better plus. It also smells like peaches, the color is orange and you can get it in 3 different sizes or something like that at like a kroger or a walmart, or just any drugstore/grocery store. Congrats!

When I went to pick up Berr, he had just rolled in a puddle of cow urine. He was just under 8 weeks old but yes, he got a bath immediately (we had to drive home with the windows open and take our clothes off in the utility room and wash them immediately--the smell was incredible  Our eyes were running....) Some breeds get bathed as early as 6 weeks (Maltese, for one). Warm water, gentle shampoo, a thorough rinsing, keep warm until completely dry.
A mild puppy shampoo is best. In a pinch, you can use a mild good quality people shampoo, but the ph is different and can cause dryness (which will cause itching).
Congrats on the baby! :029
Hi,
yes I would agree to Human Baby Shampoo, most likey your safe with dog stuff but as a puppy that is the best. After that I use Groomers Edge the Almond one smells so nice and is gentle.
