I got industrious today and decided to make Meggie something yummy. We're going to give some as Christmas presents too. We made:

Sunflower Dog Biscuits
2 C. Flour
1/3 C. Oatmeal
1/2 C. Shelled Sunflower Seeds
2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
1/2 C. Chicken Broth
2 Whole Eggs—mixed with 1/4 C. milk
1 Whole Egg—beaten
2 Tsp. Fresh Mint (natural breath freshener)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, oatmeal and seeds. Add oil, chicken broth and egg and milk mixture. Let set for 30 minutes. Then, pour onto floured surface and roll out until 1/4 ” think. Use your choice of cookie cutter and brush with the beaten egg. Bake 30 min. until golden. Let cool.

I used whole wheat flour and replaced the fresh mint with dry parsley -- they are yummy! Even on human terms! I couldn't find unsalted sunflower seeds, so I washed the salt off before blending mine in. I also sprayed my pan with Pam, even though it didn't say and they don't even try to stick. It's nice to know she's eating treats with no sugar and no salt, and she LOVES them.

We also tried these pumpkin treats and though they are a bit plain for my liking, she loves them too.

Puppy Pumpkin Drops
Ingredients:
One 15 oz. can mashed pure pumpkin (NOT the spiced pie filling)
3/4 cup cream of wheat (or rice cereal if wheat-sensitive)
1/2 cup dry powdered milk
Directions: Preheat oven to 300 F. Mix all ingredients together. Drop small spoonfuls (about half of a tablespoon) onto a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake at 300 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

The recipes came from: http://www.all-natural-dog-treat.com...t-recipes.html

We're going to try the Apple Crunch Mini Pupcakes next! They sound delish!

These recipes are awesome! You could also use pistacchios in place of the sunflower seeds. Pistacchios are high in Q10, it's something really good for them, for the heart and immune system, coat, joints. Unsalted of course, a little more pricey.

Where are you getting the recipes?

Cooking for our dogs, we are so cool !!! :050

Just printed these out....they sound great!!!

Jo Ellen, what is Q10?

Q10 is a vitamin, a co-enzyme ... the building block of all cellular function, it's an energy maker. There is no known toxicity or side effects. Adequate Q10 is like being hydrated. Low Q10 levels are often found with cancer, congestive heart failure, AIDS.

Q10 is found in oily fish (salmon, mackeral, sardines), organ meats, whole grains, some nuts and vegetables (hazels and pistacchios, carrots, cabbage, spinach, potatoes).

When you hear to eat fish twice a week, it's good for your heart and your immune system, I'm pretty sure it's at least partly because of the Q10.

I think that CoQ10 is really good too. Cayenne has been taking it for several years with no ill effects at all from it.

That looks like a really good recipe too.

Thanks for the idea with the pistacchios. Sounds great and Megs loves pistacchios too. We'll give them a try!

Oh, and this morning when Meggie usually gets an Old Mother Hubbard Peanut Butter bone, I gave her a choice. I let her smell the PB bone and one of the Sunflower bones we made and guess which one she chose! No question -- she made a grab for that sunflower bone!
