I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to clean that black goo that comes out of the ear while being treated for an ear infection? I caught this infection early and the ear didn't look bad, but after the antibiotic...black goo...I've tried a washcloth and baby shampoo but don't want to get the ear too wet.

I have personally found the wipes you can buy in the toilet paper aisle to work well. I believe they are Cottonelle. It allows me to get the yuck out without soaking down the ears or getting water in them and it hasn't bothered their ears at all either. Good luck.

Thank you so much! I just can't get the hair cleaned and she's such a light cream color it's just gross.

Baby wipes, unscented. You can wad them up a bit to get deeper into that space where your finger won't fit. Make sure your nails are short.

Thanks! I bought them, unscented, but what about the hair itself? I just can't get the black out. Guess we'll be having the groomer over. I had no idea she had an ear infection because when it comes on to my older dog it's quick and noticable. Abbey's ear looked fine but I always have antibiotic in the house so I tried it and bam...goo

Are you using a systemic antibiotic for the ears without the Vet's knowledge?

My dogs have gotten as many fungal infections as bacterial. We have always been given drops, and they ultimately help clean the ears also.

My husband puts something in the ears to clean them, and that would take out the black. He squeezes it in, and rubs under his ears to make it go down all the way, then sops it out with cotten balls. I am going to tell him about the wipes, since they may be easier to handle than the cotton balls.

Oh Thank You so much for the wipes tip. I've been using a liquid I got at the vet and wiping with cotton balls and it smells bad. It's yucky. The wipes are on my shopping list. Daisy doesn't have an ear infection but I need to clean her ears once a week or two weeks. Now if it would just warm up enough for me to give her a bath outside we'd all be happy. :p

not sure if this would work but how about trying to use the product you can get for the eye goo... that is supposed to be for cleaning the fur around the eyes .. so might work on the ears?

You know how small dogs get the little goop rings around their eyes? Nearly nothing gets those off- except the wipes for that. They tend to be near the bathing section of pet stores. The are just little prewet pad, you might want to try those out for the hair.

don't know if this will help but my vet told me to clean baylee's ears with 50/50 vinegar and water, just put a few drops in her ears and rub then let her shake. I have been putting it on a cotton ball to clean up the rest of the ear. I was also told about 50/50 witch hazel and the green rubbing alcohol from a groomer friend.
