I am the very proud owner of two golden babies. :grwag
One has just turned 4, and the other one is a year and a half. The oldest boy has skin folds around his neck, and they have become sore from his collar. It gathers the skin together, and traps moisture (I think  ). This happened before with a nylon collar, so we changed it to leather. Now, it's happened again. It's red, and sore. We take off his collar whenever we can, (when he's in the house or sleeping), but when he's on a walk, or outdoors, it's on.
Today, I bought him a rolled leather one, thinking it will help as it will not cover as much skin, and still plan to remove it whenever possible. What can I do to cure this? :204
Please help!!

first,,,, what about a harness? that won't be around the skin folds like a collar?
secondly.... Gold Bond Powder. It works on hot spots, I think it probably works on absorbing moisture.. or the old diaper remedy.... cornstarch. hope that helped

Thanks for the advice. I am worried that my youngest will lick it off. He licks Riley's neck now, so would the Gold Bond hurt him? The harness wouldn't work for Riley - he's a big boy, and we tried it. He would break loose from his run and run away. The last time, my neighbor came up and very peevishly told me that my little Houdini was on the lam! doggiex1 . But, maybe I will try the Gold Bond on him tonight while they are in their kennels.

Thanks,
Lynn

What you are describing sounds like some variation of Pyoderma. Did you run this by your vet?

You can clean the area with benzoyl peroxide shampoo (i.e. oxydex or pyoben, for example). After that, you can apply gels like, Oxydexgel.

Johnwa,
I have never heard of pyoderma. Riley has a vet appointment next week so I will run it by her. Many thanks for your help :)
