HI GUYS, I'M QUITE NEW TO THIS BUT I HAVE A QUESTION MAYBE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME WITH. MY NALA IS ALMOST 3 YEARS OLD. SHE HAD A BEAUTIFUL COAT UP UNTIL ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO IT SARTED TO THIN OUT. THE VET GAVE ME A SHED-STOP PRODUCT TO PUT OVER HER DRY FOOD. I ALSO PURCHASED THE MISSING LINK TO HELP WITH THE OMEGA 3 AND SEVERAL OTHER VITAMINS AND MINERALS BUT HER HAIR DOESN'T SEEM TO GROW BACK TO THAT BEAUTIFUL THICK SOFT COAT. COULD SOME ONE PLEASE HELP, SHE LOOKS LIKE A LAB INSTEAD OF GOLDEN. THE VET DID A THYROID TEST AND SHE WAS FINE. WHAT COULD BE WRONG? THANX TLOVE1174

What type of food are you feeding her? Have you changed foods? This could be the problem.

I DID, SHE WAS ON IAMS THEN I SWITCHED TO SCIENCE DIET THE NATURE BRAND WITH VEGETABLES.... BUT I SWITCHED IN LIKE APRIL. BEGINNING JULY I PUT HER BACK ON IAMS WITH THE MISSING LINK... I ALSO SHAMPOO HER WITH A MEDICATED SHAMPOO FOR DRY FLAKY SKIN EVERY OTHER WEEK OR SO.. THIS IS ORLANDO FL SO DEPENDING ON OUR DAILY OUTINGS AND SWIMMING ACTIVITIES. HER COAT IS JUST NOT AS PRETTY.

She may be having a reaction to the type of food you are feeding. Giving her a higher quality food, like Eukanuba, Solid Gold, Nutro, Canidae, or Wellness may improve her coat. Also, you can try giving her Derm Caps, an oil supplement that is good for making their coats glossier.

P.S. Could you please not type in all caps? It is very difficult to read. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks I'm going to try Wellness starting today I found a store not too far that carries it. I'll keep everyone posted.
I'm just curious, has this happened before to anyone, where their olden lost like a whole layer of a coat? Thanks for your advice!!:085 Tlove1174

Hi I am new at posting also...my first golden, Sandy started having problems with her coat becoming very fine and coming out everywhere. Her problem was her thyroid but you said that your Vet had checked for that. Lucy, my second golden has had a LOT of problems with dry, VERY FLAKY skin and just not a beautiful coat. She started out on LB Science Diet for puppies...now we have been on Eukanuba since May and she also gets a Skin Formula 3V capsule (I get mine at Pets Supplies Plus) daily. Her coat is beautiful and NO more dry flaky skin at all! Good Luck!:jump2

Hello,
The only time my Golden loses a layer of coat is when she is shedding. Every spring she sheds out all her undercoat. Before that her fur is always very soft and nice, but sometimes in the summer after she's done shedding her fur will seem coarse and hard, and also much thinner... This does not happen every year, but only when she is in the heat a lot and we have a lot of hot weather. It happened this year because our a/c was broken...

Wow, that's good to know that dry skin and plenty of shedding is a little common in this breed. ;) I will just have to continue giving her the little extra things in life to prevent the excess shedding and dryness. Thank You Everyone for your responses, I'll keep you all posted on whats working for Nala.
