I was just wondering, what Shampoo and Conditioner do you use for your Goldens? OH, and how can you make the baths more enjoyable for the Goldens? Cuz' harley doesn't seem to enjoy the baths that I give to him, like i would want him to.

<span style="font-family:georgia; color:blue;">I have a puppy shampoo that I still use on my Bianka, it is rich in all sorts of benefiting oils and it will not hurt their eyes if by chance I get it near them while I am bathing her. Just wished I could remember the name of it since the label is no longer on it<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif" />It a couple times ended up in the bathtub with Bianka's help<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eyes.gif" /> But do look for a shampoo that carries nice oils in it would be what I would push for that will benefit your goldens skin, as well as coat.

The type of shampoo that is used also depends on your goldens skin, meaning an outmeal based one may be more to your liking if your having problems with the skin of your golden

As far as making bath time a happy time, I am still working on that. Bi still takes off running and hiding when the word Bathy is mentioned.<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif" /><img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif" /><img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif" />Now ask her if she wants to go swimming and she will usually run right in their.....don't make sense to me<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eyes.gif" /></span>

I'm gonna go to Walmart today, and get some shampoo for harley jo. I got one more question. How do i know what kind of skin harley has?? Gosh, I'm learning new stuff everyday about Goldens, that i never knew about. :054 Yeah, Harley runs away and tries to hide from me, when he knows its time for a bath. hehe. He stinks right now, so he's due for a long time bath. hehe.:085 :p

-Please DO NOT buy shampoo from Wal-Mart for your golden!!! They sell Hartz brand shampoos. I worked at a vet clinic for 4 years and as a groomer for a year now and have seen alot of bad reactions to those shampoos(rashes, sores, hair loss). Alot of dogs, especially with sensitive skin, do not do well with Hartz shampoos. Get it either from your vet or at a pet store. We order our shampoos through Pet Edge. We also use Johnson's baby shampoo on the faces of the dogs and cats we groom. Please for your goldenbabies sake don't use Hartz!!!

We use Perfect Coat, Tendercare puppy shampoo. It sounds like the shampoo Goldenheart uses, safe for the eyes, lots of oils.
My husband hops right in the tub with the dogs when he baths them, they seem to like the company and it makes bathtime alot easier!
It also sometimes makes a bigger mess for me to clean up afterwards! :rollin

Hey y'all,

Well, I didn't go to Walmart today, to get the shampoo. I guess I'll have to buy the Shampoo @ Petco. How about tArget or K-mart? Or should I just get it @ Petco??? What do you all think? :054

A GReat brand that Wal-mart carries is called "Mane 'n' Tail" - I use it and have WONDERFUL results with it. I know many people here on the board that also use it and like it. It is a shampoo formulated for dogs, horses and humans (maybe other animals too)2.

Honeyhunter - Have you heard of this brand?

As Honeyhunter said, DO NOT get the Hartz brand from Wal-mart. It may be cheaper but it's not cutting costs in the long run.

Yes I have heard of mane and tail. I've never used the shampoo b/c I didn't know they had a shampoo :032 I use the conditioner spray on my horses manes and sometimes their tails if they are in the mood:lol ! I'll have to buy the shampoo and try it the next time I'm in Wal-Mart. My mom actually uses the conditioner on her hair! Anyway, thanks for the heads up I never look at the doggy shampoos at Wal-Mart anymore. I'll try it and let you know how I like it!:085 Kallie's mom uses Pantene that just blows my mind. Her coat is beautiful. Most dogs coats get really dried out using human shampoos. Just goes to show us groomers DON'T know everything!!!:lol

Delta loves baths. She likes to chase the stream of water from the hose and bite it and leap through it (I use the horse wash stall to bathe them). My friend, who has a (beautiful and expensive) doggie bath tub gives the dogs treats periodically throughout the bath (usually 4 little cookies per dog- one at the beginning, one after lathering, one after rinsing, and one at the end). It seems to work pretty well- I bathe them for her and I can't keep her Golden Stripe out of the tub! :)

um, yeah...actually...um...well, I'm Kally's mom!!! :032

I used to use Pantene because I wasn't pleased with any other dog products until I found the Mane 'n' Tail. I have since discontinued using Pantene.

And incase you are wondering, YES, I use the Mane 'n' Tail shampoo and conditioner! :lol

Well, I got the Mane & Tale shampoo and conditoner tonight, and harley seemed to enjoy the smell of the shampoo. hehe! I'll see what his coat looks like tomorrow morning. He sometimes gets worn out just from having a bath! LOL!! He's such a sweetie.

We have started using Mane n Tail and love it...(thanks GoldenGirl!!).
For some reason Em doesn't mind bath time at all. She hops right in the tub and lets us massage her. I think she just loves all the lovin' and kind words we give her for being such a good girl in the tub.

Mane&Tail works very well for dogs with normal skin and coat. If you have a special needs dog, you may have to shop a bit to find something compatible with your dogs skin and coat.

We've used Mane&Tail for a number of years.

WOW! I must say I am really impressed w/ how soft Harley's coat came out, after i washed him w/ the mane "N" Tail Shampoo. I just love the smell of it, on him. It made harley's coat, super super, soft. Kinda like, how they are when they are puppy's. Its amazing. Thanks for recomending this Golden Girl!!! Kudos to you!!! ~~jewels PS. And the other good thing is, he usually bites his coat, after a bath, and this time he didnt'. I think he likes the Shampoo and conditoner better too! :029

For Ginger I use Earthbath natural shampoos/conditioners, Pet Silk, and Veterinary Formula shampoos.
With the Earthbath I like the Mango Tango and the Oatmeal shampoos- they both smell great and work really well!
In the Veterinary Formula brand I've used the oatmeal conditioner, the Ultra Fluff shampoo and the Red Dog shampoo. The Ultra Fluff got Ginger's coat nice feeling and smells good, but I like the others also.

I often use Lambert Kay Fresh n Clean creme rinse after bathing. I LOVE the smell of this stuff and it leaves the dogs' fur really nice and soft. The scent lasts a long time too. I also use the creme rinse- very diluted- on Ginger's fur before she goes swimming, and when she comes out it's as if she just got a bath!
