View Full Version : Looking for a new crate
I'm in the market for a new crate. Rusty and I plan on traveling year and the crate will be used at dog shows indoors and out. I'd like to get a soft sided crate but was curious if anyone had any opinions or recommendations.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks Johnwa! I'll check the threads out.
Tailer: No not as far as you anyway.....but wish I could! Y'all have a lot more shows and in my more opinion from what I see more participation in obedience.
We'll stay within our state and possibly neighboring states to start. The cost of lodging and travel will keep us close to home this time. If we do well then we'll see.
First year out so I'm in the planning stages right now. Started a small savings account for "shows" and working on training for travel. Rusty rides well and even if it's a short trip he goes everywhere with me as long as the weather isn't too hot. He's riden in the car with me for several hours and did very well.
The crate is mainly for during shows to keep him safe and confined.

There are all sorts of brands of soft crates. The most convenient to use are those that don't have separate rods to insert. Look at the Sof-Krate or Pet Nation brands. I got my first one at Petsmart, the zipper eventually wore out so I ordered a replacement cover from the Clean Run web site for half the price of a new crate. They also carry a good quality of crate. If you go to a dog showw and Moe's toys is there they carry crates of a good quality or I am sure another vendor will have them in your area. There is also an inexpensive type you can get at Big Lots that works fine for a decent price. A lot of people around here have found them to do just fine.

Noz to Noz is another brand where the frame pops up instead of inserting separate rods.

I bought a soft-sided crate for Seamus. It was made by Pet Gear. It was very well made and pretty easy to assemble/disassemble (pop-up frame). Unfortunately, I naively used it before I knew that Seamus had some "separation anxiety" issues. He slit a hole in it within minutes and that was that. But, for a dog that's already good in a crate, I think it would have been great.
