I use Millers-Forge Large Dog Nail Trimmers and am VERY pleased with it. I had fits too before I purchased these...the cut is very smooth and Kally doesn't fight me anymore. :) I got them for $11.99 through Drs. Foster & Smith.
Everyone keeps telling me to get a dremel tool but I'm satisfied with the Millers-Forge and don't have $80 laying around :)

You might also check your local dog groomer or vets office. We purchaced a professional pair of nail clippers at our vets office years ago for $14 and they are still working great! :)

I use a Dremel tool. It was pretty expensive to buy but it came with lots of handy attachments. I use the grinding attachment and grind down their nails. It works really well and I'm never nervous about quicking them. Plus it takes almost no time and once they're used to the sound they don't mind it as much as clippers. I can also get the nails shorter than with clippers so I have to grind them less often.
