Hello all,

I'm taking Ella on her first camping trip this weekend. I'm wondering if I should buy some sort of spray or special brush because she will probably be swimming a lot. Should I get some of that spray on conditioner so she smells nice and her fur doesn't get all tangled?

It's going to be interesting because Ella doesn't sleep with us now. She sleeps in her crate. Hubby and I have a 3-man tent, which really only sleeps two comfortably (plus we have one of those blow-up air matresses which takes up a lot of space). So, we'll be in close-quarters but at least we'll keep warm!

Hello,

My suggestion would be to do what I do when I take Ginger swimming. I get Lambert Kay "Fresh n Clean Creme Rinse", and dilute it (half and half usually) in a shampoo-type bottle. When Ginger's about to go in the water, I squirt it over her (avoiding her head), especially focusing on the feathering.

When she comes out of the water and dries off, she smells and feels like she just had a bath! The Fresh N Clean is supposed to help stop tangles (works for us), and the scent stays on the dog. I do this almost every time I take her swimming.
You can find it at Petsmarts and other pet stores. You can also see it on Petsmart's website.
Just one note- I would not recommend this if your dog has had sensitivities to shampoos.

Thanks for the tip, ChicagoCanine, I'll have to get some of that for Em.

<span style="font-family:georgia; color:green;">Hey, thats a neat little tip CC. Thanks<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" /> I saved that piece of info.

I have an oatmeal based cream rinse for Bi which I hardly use anymore, good way too use it up and help with her tangles after a long swim.

Thanks again, thats a great tip<img border=0 src="http://www.topgoldenretrieversites.net/smiles/029.gif" /></span>
