Bear seems to have large paw tuffs between his toes. I have heard these are called "Golden's slippers. I read some folks trim them off with clippers. Do any of you?

I try to keep the feet trimmed especially in the winter. When it snows, those little bits of fur get little snow balls attached and it can be uncomfortable for the dog.
Some dogs don't seem to need regular trimming. My female, Maggie, doesn't need to trimmed the way my male, Charlie does.

Yes, I trim that stuff in between the toes and the stuff underneath, in between the paw pads. My groomer does a great job when I take Ginger in, gives her these pretty 'cat feet'! I only take her to the groomer a few times a year though, so in between I trim it myself.
In the past I've always done really badly, but I think it was mainly because I took off too much... Last time I did it, what I did was pull the fur down between her toes, and trim off anything sticking out at the bottom, and it looked fine. With the stuff underneath her paws, I cut off as much as possible.

Wyatt's groomer trims his paws and makes them SO pretty! I mean handsome. :lol
I know what you mean ChicagoK9 about "cat feet". That is what Wyatt's look like when he comes from the groomer. He loves to get manicures & pedicures. :D

Yes, my groomer does a great job too! Although I do trim the tufts in between grooming jobs.

i am thinking about trimming my dog's too. This morning we found a tick on her blanket.. just ONE tick. I tried to examine between her toes (paw pads) but it was very difficult to see... the hair is surely getting in the way.
didnt find anything so far... maybe i just couldn't see them.... yikes
what kind of scissors should I use to trim?

I'm bumping this topic up because I need advice. I am going to trim Tawny's feet myself, rather than taking her to the groomer.
My question is, how short should the hair over her nails be? Should you be able to see her nails at all?
I actually printed of how to do it on a breeders website

It has pictures of before and after and instructions on how to achieve it! :021

Thanks litw, for the how-to pictures for trimming the paws. I haven't been able to get to the groomers and his tufts are in need of a trim. This helps greatly. By the way, I love your signature pic under your name! :rollin
:029 Glad I could help, Before I had Tulsa, I didn't know how to trim a dogs paws either.
I'm glad you like Tulsa's pic there. She looks half cartoon!
