Hi,
I had asked some questions before about trimming Ginger's tail in the Conformation Critique thread... I'm taking Ginger in to the groomer next week, and trying to decide whether I should try cutting it myself or show the groomer what I want- she usually leaves the tip of Ginger's tail alone, as you can see in the other photos. (except once when I asked her to trim more off, and she trimmed the rest of the tail with it...
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any photos I can bring if I decide to show the groomer what I want. I also am not completely clear on how it should be trimmed.
Here are some photos I just took with a webcam.
CanadianGolden- (or anyone else who knows) can you look at these photos and maybe show me where/how to cut her tail, or draw over the photo showing it? It would be very helpful. At the longest part, her tail fur is about 18 cm. long.
(Her tail is kinda scraggly in the photos, she hasn't been trimmed in several months and she went out in the slush today...)

These last two below show where the tip of her tail is- the end of my thumb is right where her actual tail ends.

Thanks a bunch for any help!

Hi,
The photos are not working because my server where they're stored is having problems... I can't get to my website, either :(
They should work very soon- I hope!!

Yay! My server is FINALLY working- the photos should be visible now... Please tell me they are! (and I'm not just seeing things :P)
I am very relieved- My website (chicagocanine.com) was not working at all- I just hope that people don't think that it was shut down or something :(

Ginger went to the groomer today... Unfortunately I was ill and couldn't take her in, so someone else brought her, and I gave the groomer some photos and the info about how to do her tail.
Here's what she did to Ginger's tail, I don't have a photo of it now but this shows what she cut:

Oh well, at least it will grow back! Too bad though, we're going to this dog camp tomorrow and I had her groomed because I wanted her to look nice...

So I take it you don't like how she did it? Do you think it's too short? I guess I wouldn't know how long it's supposed to be.

So did the groomer not cut her tail the way you wanted it done? I would of thought if you brought a picture he/she would have done what you asked for. Hope it looks okay, but like you said it will always grow back! I'm sure she looks beautiful! ;)

I just took a photo of how her tail looks---

I really thought it would turn out well. I brought her a photo showing where to cut at the end, printed out the 'directions' that CanadianGolden gave me and the info that said not to cut the rest of the tail to match, a photo of a Golden with a correctly cut tail, and a photo of someone trimming a Golden's tail tip.
Here's how her tail looked before, for comparison:

Hi,
Yep... Waaay too short. She was only supposed to even it out, not take much off it at all. It's supposed to look pretty much like in this photo:

Oh my god, what did she DO????? This was obviously her intentionally cutting it like that- it's impossible to make such a mistake from messing up with my method. But don't worry, it will grow back! :) Just tell people at your event that she had gotten into so many burrs that it all had to be cut away. Sorry about that, I really hope it grows quickly! :o

Can you please describe the best method to trim the tail? If you don't mind.
Thanks

Wow! That is just terrible! Oh I am so sorry Lizzi! :\
I can do a better job than that groomer can (and that isn't very good! :lol )

Hey,
Just wanted to say thanks guys for the sympathy- I needed it!! I almost did cry...I was just so surprised/upset.
It just looks awful. For some reason it makes her look like she has a short stubby tail. :(
Too bad they don't make hair extension for dogs! This weekend at the dog camp, we're sharing a room with someone with a Golden, Mattie- I think Mattie's going to laugh at poor Ginger! ;(

(that's Mattie on the right)
I'm trying to decide if I should call the groomer and ask why she ended up cutting it so short? I'm guess she misread the instructions... I wish I could have stayed there to explain it to her while she worked. (I sometimes stay there while she grooms Ginger and wash my terrier myself.)
I thought maybe she did what she did last time I asked her to take more off the end- cut the end and then followed the curve that made to trim the rest of the tail? It didn't end up anywhere NEAR that short that time, though. If she did take too much on the end or something, I would have preferred if she had just left it looking uneven, rather than cut the rest off!
I guess I just should have done it myself, and asked the groomer to clean up that mess instead! (I am horrible with trimming- in kindergarten, I gave myself a haircut- no idea why- and ended up with my hair way up above my ears...)
Just wanted to add that this is the groomer I've used for Ginger forever, and she is generally very good. *sigh*

ChicagoCanine, condolences on the bad hair cut. I wouldn't have been as cool about it as you were I'm afraid. >: It'll grow out sooner than you think though.
I told Becky last night that we were going to learn how to do all the grooming/trimming etc. ourselves. That way we'd have no one to blame but ourselves for screwing it up. ;)
She told me to have fun...8o

ChicagoK9, I definitely think you should call your groomer and let her know you were not pleased with Ginger's tail. She needs to know!
Don't feel too bad, like everyone said it will grow back and I'm sure she is just as beautiful as ever. It's only hair!! Look at it this way, less hair to clean up! :085

I thought humans were the only species to get bad hair cuts!:204
Give Ginger a tummy rub for me...I know how it feels to get a bad haircut...I've had my share!>:
