grooming ears

I am interested in thinning out the fur on Bodhi's ears, or having it done. I have found one website that gives hints on how to groom goldens but I'm sure that I can get better advice here. He is a really furry male. He is only 8 months and already has a lot of feathering on his tale and legs and a thick lion like mane on his chest. Ofcourse I think that he is just beautiful, but his fuzzy ears bug me a bit. I think he would look more polished if he lost the straggly stuff on his ears. Any suggestions. I probably will just take him to a groomer in the long run, but I don't want him butchered at a groomer that doesn't know what they're doing. I need to sit down and spend some time getting his picture on so all can see.
I guess this is long thread for a silly subject but I would love to get some suggestions.

We take our GR to a groomer to trim those problem areas, like the ears. Just tell the groomer what you want done. I have found that the ones in private practice do the best job. As opposed to the ones that work in those "pet supermarkets". But that's just my opinion.

I would echo Jack's comment, find a good groomer. If you make a bad cut, your boy would have an extended "Bad Hair Day" for a couple of months.

A good independent Groomer is a little harder to find, but well worth the effort.

I would also recommend a good groomer. My neighbor had her GR groomed at a pet supermarket & the groomer trimmed all his feathering! I had heard that the feathers don't ever grow back so this GR doesn't even look like a golden anymore! Good luck!
