I am filling out the AKC application for tanner and it has the name field. Do I just put Tanner, or do I make up a full name for him? I know for the litter information it has his moms name as Roweton's Good Golly Miss Molly, so would I put in the full name like above? This is my first time filling out AKC paperwork and I want to make sure I get it right.

Name is the registration name for your dog, not the "call" name. If you don't have (or want) a full registration name, then you could use just the call name; in your case, that would be Tanner.
For more detailed information, suggest you refer to AKC's website:

One thing...if you use "Tanner" as his full name and AKC already has that name listed it may add a number or use your last name after it to differentiate it from another.

You can use whatever you want, but the AKC will add roman numerals after the name of the dog if it's been used already, so using just a call name isn't a great idea.
These have been the registered names and call names of my dogs over the years:
Mandy's Moxie Bear (Moxie)
Jessie's Rushin' Rosette (Rose)
Am/Can Ch. Windem's Broken Promises (Belle)
Charlotte's Golden Sal CDX MX AXJ NAC NJC NGC (Sallie)
Goldencol's Over and Out CDX NA OAJ WC TDI (Delta)
A few of my friends' dogs:
Can Ch & OTCh Butterblac's Knock 'Em Over UDX MX MXJ JH (Crush) (Delta's sire)
MACH Butterblac 'Nock Your Sox Off CDX TDX MX MXJ Can. CDX TDX AgMX AgIJ (Splat) (Delta's half brother)
Can. Ch & OTCh Goldencol's Texas Hospitality Can. AGX MADC MSDC MGDC Am. CD NA NAJ (Tally) (Delta's dam)
Butterblac's For The Fun Of It UDX MX AXJ JH WC Can. CDX WC AD OAC NJC NGC (Tally)
Can. Ch. & OTCh. Dannebrog Distance Runner UD WCX TT Can. WCI (Cajun)
Can. Ch. & OTCh Butterblac's Some Fools Dream Am. UD JH WCX; Can. WCI (Bannor)
Aureolus Alloy's Tiger Motif CDX AX OAJ TD WC VCD2 NAC NJC AD (Stripe)
Jerusalem Road Less Traveled AX AXJ (Vespa)
Hope those are helpful examples of how to relate a call name to a registered name. (Oh, and the letters after their names are titles, not part of the name itself.)
