I am very new to this as I have only owned muts in the past. We are getting a gr puppy in about a month and a half (unborn litter of a friends) I was just wondering if a dark colored female can have light colored babies regardless of the fathers color. The owner of the mother seems to think it is possible. I just want to know what we could be looking at so I can prepare myslef for a very hard choice on top of very hard choices. Ie... color on top of personality and looks. lol Please help!!!

Very definitely can happen. It depends on the pedigree and background of both parents but dark can produce light and light can produce dark.

I always tell people that the first things to be concerned about are health-make sure the parents have all clearances (hips/elbows/eyes/heart), as well the grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. and that there is good longevity in the lines; temperament is important as well-both parents should be sweet and friendly, and the puppies should be well-socialized and friendly and outgoing. Once you get past those two items, you can start thinking about sex and color :) Typically, a puppy will grow up to match the color of its ears when young.

With the basics out of the way then, you will have fun making your choice. You and your puppy will find each other, you'll be surprised. :dogbark
